Every now and then, a game comes along that I really get into and has my attention from start to finish. I would say the last couple games to do that were Death Stranding and Breath of the Wild. Death Stranding, while the story wasn't that interesting, had a great gameplay loop that kept me coming back for more and more. I ended up really enjoying building out routes as efficiently as possible. I completed Death Stranding in just one week, after about 60 hours!

For Breath of the Wild, I finished it in around 2 weeks, after about 70 or 80 hours. I just really loved exploring the world. I hadn't played an open world game where I enjoyed exploring so much since Skyrim. The only downside to BoTW for me were the dungeons, which will hopefully be addressed in the sequel.

How about you, SW? What was the last game that hooked you in from start to finish?

REmake 2 and 3, having finished them recently in the lead up to Village. Currently playing through VII, and although it's great so far, can't say I'm as into it as I was 2 and 3.

Jedi Fallen Order. Not a huge Star Wars fan, but big enough to get sucked into the world. But it was the combat that really clicked with me; it just felt "right," somehow.

Can't wait for JFO 2.

Demon's Souls Remake, GoW, Spiderman + DLC. I forced myself to the end of Day's Gone, skipped a good amount of cut-scenes and dialogue, don't really know how it ended lol.

When I start up a single player game, I usually continue it without interruption (playing other games between) until it's finished. I was hoping AC Valhalla would really grab my attention and be a comeback for the series but I got bored after about 20 hours. I decided to take a break after a month of pushing through it at the PS5 launch but I haven't returned.

That puts Ghost of Tsushima as the last to really pull me in. Fantastic game. I could have spent even more time in it and am already planning a replay to see the graphical update given for PS5 from the launch PS4 I played it on.

I'm currently moving all my other games aside for A Plague Tale: Innocense

For a guy that really loves Dishonored, I couldn't pick a better game than one that's about a rat plague.

It's such a dark setting, but it also has really likable characters.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

I was very late on playing this game but I finally got around it. Fantastic platformer, wonderful soundtrack, very vibrant and creative design. Will play again.

Nothing wrong with that. There are ones out there that are very great.

I don't play many but there was one on the DS that I bought on a whim and I ended up so addicted and couldn't put down until I beat the game--ahem--interactive novel. The title I'm talking about is Hotel Dusk: Room 215.

That was honestly one of the best games on the Nintendo DS that nobody played.

Even though I have yet to complete the main quest and defeat Ganon, the current game that I am "hooked" on playing from beginning to end is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I have yet to seriously try to defeat Ganon and I am enjoying killing enemies I can find them and collecting Korok seeds weeks after freeing the four Divine Beasts and the sprits of their pilots.

@jaydan: you ought to play the Last Window on the ds if you haven’t yet. It’s a European only release, was never localized in Japan and US.

It’s a sequel to 215, I finished the game and I felt Cing did a better job then 215.

That would be Monster Hunter Rise for me. I’ve long since beaten the final monster for the first time, have logged in about 140 hours, and still play it regularly. Love the game.

Monster Hunter Rise who finally figured out the mobility issues.

Slay the Spire as one of the most addicting run games I've played.

RE 2 for bringing zombies back to the series... and RE 3 for letting you blow their heads off freely. This RE Engine is the best engine in gaming right now.

Bloodstained for nailing the castlevania familiar builds and ability level ups.

When you're reading more than actually playing, then yeah there kinda is. Might as well read a book where the gameplay is in turning the pages, which in some ways is more than pressing a button on Ace lol.

And interactive books are much cheaper.

Another two that come to mind are Divinity: Original Sin 1+2. I slaved over those games, lol.

Probably a long while since I did a start to finish with something without juggling something else into it. Maybe the last game I devoted myself to at the neglect of all else was Narita Boy because it only took a few hours to beat. Before that, Prey (2017), which I actually beat only just a couple years ago but went to check it out with the new Xbox Series X update, and before I knew it I was fully committed to finishing the game from start to finish (it's that good). Almost did it again with Portal 2 the other day but my friend wanting to co-op pulled me out of claiming that one.

Last game I played or last game released chronologically? The last one that I played that didn't get boring before I beat it was Super Metroid a couple weeks ago. Last one released chronologically, maybe Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Most recently probably The Surge early this year. Game was absolutely fantastic, loved playing it it was a great soulsborne clone. The sequel less so but still an enjoyable time.

Also technically apex legend if that game counts. Only very recently started like 3-4 weeks now but really enjoying the game.

Holy shit. I probably haven't logged that many hours into a single game since Perfect Dark on the N64.
