they were never great. they just got credit for making first console FPS plus when theres no standard at all. a game get tons of praise.

if goldeneye/perfect dark were PC game that era, they would not even receive more than 5/10.

Dont try to project your cowardice on me. I play the SP, beat it, then move on to the MP. If I had 1000+ hours in Doom SP.....that would just be sad. Maybe you have that, good for you.

I beat Eternal and having on my second playthrough on nightmare. its not like you can beat the game and thats it.

Not sure if I understood your question since you mostly talk about how superior you think the PC is to consoles, but here are three that came out on console first that I think were pretty good.

Maybe Halo Reach? Though Call of duty World at War was pretty decent as well.

Resistance 3. I was very impressed with the campaign at the time. Aside from the shit frame rate and having to use a controller, Insomniac really nailed it with that game.

@ghosts4ever: CoD is centered around MP, the majority of people who play it dont even bother with the campaign. I do,t really understand what yoir point is? Also how was Eternal on easy, to much hand holding or not enough for you?

of course it centered around MP. but when COD 1 and 2 were a thing. they were SP games. by the time COD4 released. it become MP. and COD4 was trash. ruined FPS genre. turn into casual games until Doom save it.

@ghosts4ever: actually yea it is. This is how games have been for the past two decades. Only cowards like you hide out and beat up on braindead AI and pretend to be "badass". It's like talking to a wall, you just don't get it. You will never understand the upper echelons of MP / tournament play, because you can't even get past the 1-2 hour weekend casuals.

Yes, you can beat a SP campaign and thats it. Side quest hunting and finding every secret is a fucking waste of time. Go join the kids this weekend on an easter egg hunt.

I played many FPS in past. I never liked Half life 1 and 2 MP. just beat then 10 times for SP, I beat STALKER multiple times for SP, I beat FEAR for SP. beat riddick many times for SP and i could go on and on. even i liked COD1 and 2 for its SP, so MOH allied assault.

I played every major FPS and i found SP to be more worth the value than MP.

and if you count TPS like Max payne and Mafia. they have oscar worthy story, and amazing memorable experience.

the SP/MP become popular after COD4 days aka dumbing down days. then all games need MP and 6 hour campaign. then this treand slowly dying so we get back to Sp FPS gaming once again.

and im pretty sure "brain dead" AI owned you so you go back to MP games with 20 year old kids and killing each other in same map over and over again. lol casual games like PUBG and fortnite are made for this.

Hope next gen Riddick games get BC on Xbox Series, never played them but read good things. Got so much backlog of FPS games yet to play like Perfect Dark, BLACK, The Darkness, Condemned... this one of the reasons i got Xbox as well, some not on PS and the ones that were ran worse because you needed to be a scientist to get power out PS3. And well.. the backwards comp..

Best FPS i played were on PC. I guess Half Life 2 best single player. FEAR was cool. Doom 3 i liked, have it both on PC and PS4. Multiplayer hands down the classic Americas Army was one good game. Never thought there could be anything better until i played Killzone 2 and was blown away... have yet to see anything like it to this day. I understand the low ratings Shadow Fall got, poor story, meh multi, crap coop, the secret about that game was the custom clan competitive side i wish more people knew about. Bioshock games were ok, first i really loved the story. Red Faction on PS2 was funny, bursting holes on the walls lol. Half Life 1 i played on PS2 as well, good version better textures 60fps... bringing the new remake to consoles would be good idea.

Nostalgic choices Doom 1 and 2 still play from time to time. Halo 3 was revolutionary for me everything felt great hoping infinite gets it back on track.

dont know what was so mindblowing about killzone. it was typical 7th gen console shooter with focus on MP.

It was suppose to be Halo killer yet its not even a shadow of Halo and Halo is not even mindblowing let alone killzone.

Neither. FPS are horrible trying to use a controller. Keyboard and Mouse have always been light years ahead with FPS.

@fedor: Powerslave/Exhumed was amazing however it originally was released on dos. It is the middle eastern version of Hexen pretty much.

Timesplitters 2 amazing game with unbelievable amount of content. It is a shame haze was a massive flop and caused problems for the company.
