What's the most overrated game of all time in your opinion?

I'm going to go with Witcher 3. The combat was not fun at all, and I also wasn't a fan of the dialogue which was a slog to go through. But I hear this game mentioned quite a lot when it comes to greatest of all time and I just wasn't that big of a fan of it. What about you, SW? What's the most overrated game of all time in your opinion?

Halo Infinite.

Its 3 points higher than what its worth. Whole three points.

Not sure which game I would say is most overrated but whenever the question of overrated games come up the first things that pop into my mind are Half-Life games, Sonic games, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

The Last of Us and Uncharted games. Very generic.

A particular I just don’t get: Earthbound.

EASY! The obvious answer is Elden Ring.

Okay okay, I keed. But seriously, Deathloop was so damn overrated and destroyed any last bit of faith I might've had in gaming journalism.

Breath of The Wild. Its an 8/10 for me game way too empty and not much to do. Only saved by the excellent traversal. Horse riding and horse combat sucks ass tho.

Call of Duty 4 never understood the hype Battlefield 2 was a million times better and did everything better then COD4. But I understand why it got the attention it was made for the mainstream the game fixed boo boos by itself.

yep, definitely up there for me.

sa was a jack of all trades, master of none, glorified driving game. it started so well too but soon as that green sabre mission ended game just nose dived. story stretched wafer thin, a procession of awful characters and bullshit filler missions. fine if you were content with a sandbox to dick around in but not if you were looking for something coherent, well paced and faithful to a theme throughout like vice city

Go with the original Witcher.

Whatever complaints have about 2/3, this game is just... bad.

CDP have been pretty good at their marketing of "le pc gamer master race" where that dumbass gimmick reviewer Zero Punctuation helped perpetuated the idea.

But nothing old school about it, if anything plays like a badly cobbled together console game.

Awful UI design.

Badly implemented mechanics.

God awful combat.

Poorly designed combat arenas

Terrible animation (at the time and now)

Recycled models

Poorly optimized, straight up unfinished (enhanced?) haha

Only thing really compliment is the soundtrack and art-design.

@Macutchi: I think it also just kind of came out at a bad time for me. I was getting tired of the PS2 visuals and the driving and shooting mechanics. Sure there was tons of stuff you could do in it but I just wasn’t enjoying any of it. Kind of shame to because I was definitely onboard the hype train for it. Lined up at my EB Games/Game Stop for the midnight launch to get the game and the strategy guide for it. Kept trying so hard to get into but finally just had to tap out on it.

FFVII, but more specifically Sephiroth.

Skyrim and FO4 come to mind.

As for the topic, I’ll have to go with then uncharted series! Honestly don’t get the love these “games” get everywhere, basically just a bunch of cutscenes ties together with some terrible climbing and some mediocre shooting and everyone gobbles it up…

OG Witcher was praised. It's a straight-up bad game.

Not like, a decent game with a few minor flaws or a rough gem, just bad in many many respects right to the core.

Really, I think Cyberpunk was a culmination of the lie CDP managed to cultivate of being some incredible top tier dev.

Lots of games were a big let down and some franchises should be buried and left for dead.

• CoD games after CoD2
• BF games, never liked them
• The Witcher series (I can't officially comment on 3, didn't play it, but 1 was dull in everything expect for the storyline and 2 was awful to play)
• Dying Light 2
• Halo 2 and on
• Final Fantasy games after the PSX era
• Half-Life 2: Episode games (not because episode 3 was never released, the games just weren't very good)

Yeah... I really wanted to like The Witcher 3. I mean... I did, but the combat made it tough for me to finish. I found I was having a bit more fun near the end of the game when I had access to the end game skills. Alchemy+Combat was a fun build because you can become extremely overpowered with potions. None of the Witcher games had good combat. I'd go as far as to way Witcher 2 was worse than first game because the combat was just broken and unintuitive - it just felt bad to play.

I think a lot of Sony blockbusters are pretty overrated too.

• Uncharted. I hate how fkn boring it is.
• Last of Us was better than Uncharted, but the shooting segments against the human enemies were fkn awful.
• God of War. Again I wasn't a fan of the combat. Dropped it after 3-4 hours because it just wasn't fun for me.

Games like COD and BF I don't think are overrated. Most regular people rate them as shit, but for some reason just play them anyway. I have no idea why. I don't have time to play all the games I think are fun, not sure why I would play a game that's not fun.

Probably Skyrim.

ff7r, ff7 integrade, horizon zero dawn, horizon forbidden west, god of war, and probably the biggest one on this list has to be TLOU2. Jeez that game sucked.

@SolidGame_basic you should now make a thread, whats the most under rated game of all time. I'll give you a heads up on that. Halo Infinite. What a fantastic game, its so under rated, even when it got a 9. It deserves higher than a 10, its that amazing.

Had a list, but decided to just go with Fallout 3. Got such high marks from all directions (the hate it gets now is kinda retroactive) and when I finally jumped in I felt like I was missing something. Kept going thinking it must get better, but it never did.

Yeah TW3 is the big one in recent years.

All time tho? Gonna say it's a tossup between OoT and FF7. These games topped lists from all sorts of publications, polls, forum posts, etc. for a looooong time. Not even the best games in their respective genres, not even the best games in their own series, but it was sacrilege to question their best ever status.

I get it. I also thought these games were the best shit ever when they came out. Both memorable games, both feeling like monumental leaps forward. Really left an impression.

But their gods of gaming status didn't start slowing until late gen 7/early gen 8, was a bit obnoxious lol.

The Witcher Trilogy

Half Life 2. Half Life REALLY doesn't stand the test of time, and while you could argue FPSs don't, I'd say not true.

There are so many FPS game that came before HL2 that I'll still play from the first Doom game, and many games that came after.

Half Life 2 is overrated imo. According to Valve, even the reason the series exists is boring. It's meant to be a tech showcase for their new engines.

Super Mario World: every two levels look the same, every two levels use the same musical tracks, and half the game feels like it's filler. You can do way better on the Super Nintendo like Mega Man X, X2, 7, Sparkster, and SCIV.

Halo 2 felt it wasnt great at all 3 was light years ahead.

Fortnite / Apex Legends / Overwatch 1-2

as far as critically overrated, Deathloop. its like a 6-7/10 game IMO.

MGS V is another one - to me it just felt like a blander Far Cry game that people went crazy over cause Kojima etc. didn't get the hype for it at all.

I feel bad for people who didn't enjoy Witcher 3. that was a profoundly great experience for me and easily one of the best games i've ever played

Halo 1-3. Halo Infinite is actually pretty good and enjoyable.

KOTOR and Planescape Torment... games I played some but couldn't get into

Halo 2 wins the "pissed me off the most" award. Ruined everything great about the original (mainly speaking about multiplayer), and convinced a generation of players that this is what the game is supposed to be. They should be charged with war crimes.

I don't get people's disdain for FO3... unless they were fans of the first 2. It was my introduction to the series, and I loved it, but I can see it upsetting the hardcore rpg crowd.

@Basinboy: I see your Earthbound, and I raise you a Chrono Trigger. Neither are bad games, but the mythical praise they receive is a bit extreme. I would take Link to the Past, Super Metroid or FF2/4 over those two any day.
