So many great games in this franchise, but I always gotta revert to the original Metal Gear Solid. It was groundbreaking for its time and still is unique even now. It helped usher in 3D gaming and showed us what games could be. It was the original movie game lol, jk. But it did have a deep story and great dialogue for a video game. It created one of the most iconic characters. It broke the fourth wall, had great boss fights, and made us think and care about the characters. And that was all the way back in 1998!! But anyway, I digress.

What is your favorite Metal Gear game, SW? Bonus question: will we see a Metal Gear revival soon?

Toss up between 1 and 3.

Still need to play Peace Walker, my Polish friend declared it the best game. Got the MGS collection disk about, somewhere.

Ground Zeroes sucked. Didn't like the tone of it either. Most Metal Gear Solid games are fun and stupid.

This? Paz gets sexually assaulted (gang raped) while a kid is ordered to join in, then she gets a bomb hidden up either A/B hole and blown up.

What fun.

That's on top of being ripped off. **** that game.

Scam job.

1 followed by 3. I do think 3 was better overall, but 1 was my intro to the series.

Voted MGS3 but 4 is pretty much tied with it. 1, 2, and 5 are very much excellent as well.

Not the best one, but Ghost Babel is shockingly good considering it's on Game Boy Color.

MGS1, OG, not Twin Snakes.

Yeah I agree, it was pretty damn mind blowing for its time. It’s also one of the few MGSes that is fairly coherent narratively before Kojima began to lose it and get self-indulgent, pretentious and convoluted with his storytelling.

I hope the rumors of a remake in Fox Engine are accurate, as long as they leave the cinematics and story alone. They were perfect in the original.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Stellar gameplay combined with some of the most insane storytelling ever... And I loved every minute of it! Definitely one of my top 5 GOAT games ever.

Definitely MGS V (GZ and PP)! It was the first game with actual good gameplay, good controls and gameplay freedom while not interrupting the player every so often with Kojima's verbal diarrhea. It was still there but overall the game was largely gameplay focused. It has the best gameplay of the series, period.

Metal Gear Solid 4. I loved the final chapter and how emotional the last cut scene was.

Worst MGS was part 5. The game felt incomplete and the story was incredibly bad.

MGS (1998) This game blew me away when it first released, the gameplay was great, the gimmicks we're fun as hell (the game reading your memory card and such), the graphics were top their, and the story was insane.

After that I couldn't get into the series much, 3 was good, skipped 2 and tried 4 but couldn't get into that one at all.

MGS1. It was a cool cinematic experience at the time. The novelty wore off in the sequels. Replacing Snake with Raiden in MGS2 did not help at all. Could never really enjoy the series after that. It is too ridiculous and over the top.

Story and story telling in MGS have always been garbage, sh*t tier, stupid and only for the idiots who have no idea what a good story is.

MGS V objectively has the best gameplay in the entire franchise and only idiots who play play games to watch the cutscenes can't see that.

Gameplay is better in original MGS. MGS5 gameplay is same as far cry ie boring with tedious open world design.

MGS shine with its linear and in depth level design.

Started an MGS 3 playthrough this weekend and I have about a few hours left. The beginning took some time to get used to; the camera almost killed my experience! But now that I'm used to it, I'm enjoying it. Doing the The Sorrow boss fight. So good! Oh, and the story is great, not sure how someone can say it sucks. Sounds like said person has a hard time following things. 😉

Can love baloom on the battlefield? Or was Otacon just a little simp being led along?

But generally I agree, always liked the atmosphere of the first game more so than the others.

A lot of it was the music composer, the diluted colour pallet and the Playstation hardware itself, where much like games such as Tomb Raider II, had a thick lair of black fog which gives this weird sense of isolation the later games don't really have.

Gameplay wise, yea, II, III etc. etc.. shit all over it.

Very hard to place what is the consensus greatest video game franchise of all time. All of Kojima's (main) games are masterpieces.

But...

  1. Metal Gear Solid 4 (my favourite game of all time)
  2. Metal Gear Solid 2 (top 3 favourite game)
  3. Metal Gear Solid 5 (top 5)
  4. Metal Gear Solid 3 (top10)
  5. Metal Gear Solid (not completed this game - eagerly waiting for the 4K/60 Fox Engine remake)

MGS2 has the best soundtracks, MGS5 the best gameplay and MGS4 the best story.
