GoldenEye 007 Gets Release Date on Xbox Game Pass

• James Bond will return to consoles on January 27.

Back in September last year, it was announced that the Rare-developed ’90s smash GoldenEye 007 would be returning to consoles at last, for experienced players to enjoy all over again and a new generation to investigate for themselves.

Today we can announce a date for GoldenEye 007’s arrival on Xbox Game Pass, and you won’t have to wait long: the global launch date is January 27, 2023, just a few days from now. In fact the rollout begins late on January 26 in some territories, becoming available to players all over the world by January 27.

The version of GoldenEye 007 set to appear on Xbox Game Pass is the classic game that made waves in 1997, based on the movie that introduced audiences to a thrilling new era of James Bond. It comes packed with objective-based stealth shooter gameplay and, of course, a legendary local multiplayer mode for split-screen showdowns with friends. It also offers a few key additions for a modern audience, including alternative control options, achievements to unlock and native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported).

GoldenEye 007 will be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as part of Xbox Game Pass. Additionally, players who own a digital copy of Rare Replay, the 30-game compilation of Rare games made to celebrate the studio’s 30th anniversary, will be able to download and enjoy the game free of charge. Watch for it breaking cover on January 27!

Man, I am pumped to this this for sure! It seems to be a Game Pass exclusive on the Xbox, or if you own a digital copy of Rare Replay. I have Rare Replay, so it looks like I am all set!

I own a digital copy of Rare Replay as well as subscribe to Game Pass so I’m most definitely good to go. 😅

Anyway I enjoyed the game on the N64 but wasn’t some huge fan of it so I’ll give it a go to take a trip down memory lane.

I still think the remake of 007 Goldeneye that was leaked looks infinitely better.

@kvallyx: And don't forget Goldeneye also comes to Rare Replay for free as it should have been part of the collection from the beginning and I own the digital version so I'm good to go. Rare Replay still remains my only favorite Xbox One exclusive.

I'm only partially interested in Goldeneye as a novelty. Been playing A LOT of the Xbox 360 Perfect Dark remaster lately. And it is far superior in every way. Can't believe a game like PD ran on the N64. This must have pushed the console to its very limits.

Golden eye is that game that has been surpassed by a thousand other games and we thank it for its service, but yeah, no.

I didn't play the original and it looks really really rough.

I'll play it for the SP, but odd online MP was excluded from Xbox version, it's also on Game Pass so I'm not complaining

Didn't realise the textures were further improved for the Xbox One version. I assumed it was identical to the Xbox 360 version.

Sure can appreciate how it helped FPS on console, but as a game? Na.

Stuff like Doom 64 hold up, that's legit good.

Well, downloaded on Xbox and... yeah, still pretty fun. Even uses the dual stick controls. Didn't know Code Mystics handled the port.

Yeah, I'll definitely be playing it. I have a lot of fond memories of playing it with my friends back in the day. I just hope that you have the option to switch between inverted and normal aiming styles. If I remember correctly, in the N64 days, the aiming was inverted. Hopefully they give us the option, because I don't like inverted controls.

Hope I can just insert the Rare replay disc into my Xbox and start playing this?

The controls for GoldenEye 007 on the Switch are terrible. I was hoping that it would use the modern day console controls for the game.

If I have to remap the controller like this (basically swap both sides) to make it playable, that’s bad.

If the Xbox series X can't do more than 30 fps in a N64 game, that's bad too.

I got to playing it and man it's pretty awesome lol. Still getting rekkd though, on thr first level.

It's still as fun as I remember and it's nearly 25 years old. That's the mark of a fantastic game right there. But man, I'm experiencing a bit of lag. Wierd issue to have for an n64 game. But I guess it's a straight port after all.
