Well Microsoft is confirming that it can't. Is this system truly next gen? Is it leap over the Xbox One X? I don't think so. It can't handle xbox one x enhancements.

Archangel also said before he's buying an XSX to play the best versions of multiplats even though he plays on a 40 inch 1080p TV.

@ProtossRushX: I said I don’t see why the games wouldn’t run just fine and it looks like they will, just without the Xbox One X-centric enhancements. They also said that in some ways the games will look better with improved texture filtering and other enhancements. 🤷‍♂️

It runs the games, just no need for One X's 4K enhancements on a 1080p/1440p console

For OG Xbox, that's 4x resolution

For 360, its 16x anisotrophic filtering

Why would you need 4k resolution.....only to output 1080p or 1440p?

Just wasted resources

No. My thread was titled "Can the new XSeS run Xbox One X Enhanced Titles in 4k without issue using BC?"

You said it would be no problem for the Series S to run them. We already knew it could run the xbox one version of games the question was could it run the 4k XB1X enhanced version of the game.

Without a patch the game won't look any better than the base XB1 versions all your getting like a boost mode for a non patch game which barely does anything for those games.

You do realize the xb1 x enhancements were more than just resolution bumps right? They had better graphics better lighting improved shadows all that stuff. Now you can only play xb1 version of those games on the series S without any of those upgrades.

So every xb1 developer is going to go back and re-update all their old games to be optimized for series S? Nobody is gonna do that except for a few first party titles maybe.

This is mind bogglingly stupid.

WTF is the point of this console? Why not just do a streamlined version of the Xbox One X? That should have been the absolute baseline for a "next gen" console. At least then it keeps the Xbox One X enhancements and has to sacrifice less for next gen games.

@ProtossRushX: You think that matters to a person buying a $300 console?

If you are one of those interested in performance and resolution, chances are you aren't getting the budget model or entry level graphics card or cell phone

Dude that doesn't make an once of sense, specially since MS is bragging about enhance scaler that can upscale to 4k.

This machine simply can't because its GPU is not that powerful,it may work better in some games with some tricks but that will not be the case apparently for all instances, another thing is the bandwidth is smaller on this system as well.

They simply can't run them is about the only logical explanation.

This is even more lame..

So just because some one wants the cheaper version that means they don't want the best possible graphics for the money they pay?

What about those want the series X but can't afford it considering there is a damn pandemic going on where many have loss their jobs and many who work do so part time and maybe with luck they can get a $300 one?

There is no excuse that shit simple is not compatible with the xbox one X enhancements that were beyond resolution by the way, just to be clear the PS5 support the Pro in legacy mode.

from the article posted in the 1st post

But games not having Xbox One X enhancements isn’t as bad as it sounds – because ultimately, backwards compatible games will have a new suite of enhancements instead.

This has nothing to do with current gen vs. next gen, it's about BC. When you play an X1 game on XSS you can only play the base game and not the X1X version.

People that will buying that console are obviously not concerned with any of that. My guess is that the majority of sales will be to kids in college and grandmas looking to give little Billy a good Christmas. Those worried about the tech will either get a XSX or a PS45 but either way the XSS will play the same multiplats. I for one just hope the console doesn't hold the others back. Since they are running similar hardware on many fronts however I am a lot less concerned about their ability to scale back the games as opposed to this gens consoles.

@ProtossRushX: You seem to have left out the parts where the Series is more powerful overall, and despite not have the On X enhancements, it enhances other aspects like higher framerate, increased texture quality etc.

Though the Xbox Series S will undoubtedly be a more capable machine than the Xbox One X overall

To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR.”

wow were have you been? the series s is very weak compared to the series x. like 8 teraflops difference.

same cpu though and ssd but with less space. only 512 gigs for a digital console.

that is why its only 299.

There is a problem it may be more powerful by some features, but bandwidth wise is starved vs the xbox one X which would be a problem.

It simply can't run them i am sure there is more to it that just power,i am sure compatibility is not the issue thats for sure.

@ProtossRushX: It will take advantage of all the Xbox One X enhances at 1440p.

I am not exactly sure how you can’t grasp this. I have never seen cows so insecure in my life. Well, I take that back, this reminds me of when the 360 was announced. Seeing Side by side performance where the PS3 looked like a total turd.

The Series S is not being marketed as a 4k machine. Clearly says on the box 1440p but in all seriousness it’s designed for 1080p TV’s.

So again, it will take advantage of all Xbox One X graphics enhanced titles, but at 1440p/1080p resolution. You know this, you just chose to be an idiot and ignore it.

your budget box is a 4tf turd that will hold back series x games. Devs quoted as having to reduce scope to accommodate said turd. Stop crying.

You can't just run xb1 x games on series S and turn down resolutions without testing how the game performs. They would need to re-patch the game for series S specifically otherwise it will just be running regular basic xbone versions of those games at some cases 720p and bad settings. This isn't next gen to me. Its just not. Its below X and identical to the xbone.

Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next generation console and play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR

Games with dynamic resolutions and unlocked framerates will also see a benefit.

games will still look better on Xbox Series S due to improved texture filtering and other enhancements.

Ultimately, backwards compatible games will have a new suite of enhancements instead.

First party games going to be updated to make use of the extra power afforded by both Xbox Series S and X.

So better resolution and framerates, probably the 2 biggest issues on original Xbox will be sorted and extra features on top of that.

Anyone expecting it to do xbox One X backward compatibility fully at a price less than Xbox One X need to have a rethink.

How does Series S magically improve textures without a patch built by the developer of the game? What other enhancements? They need to list them out so people know.

I can understand Series S dropping less frames on an original xb1 game and maintaining higher on dynamic resolutions. But we're talking about an xb1 game. It's still gonna look like crap boosting a few dropped frames or dropped resolutions in spots doesn't mean anything. Thats barely an upgrade at all compared how the xb1 x version with xb1x enhancements looks.

If you like to play xb1 games get an xb1x cuz the series S is garbage. The only games that will look better on the S is if the dev's goes back and builds game exactly for the S and none of these developers are doing that right now except a few microsoft ones like gears 5 and forza.

I really hope consumers do their homework before buying this console. The Series X has so much more value. It'd be great if they released a discless Series X for $399... it'd make the Series S even less value. I know people just look at the price. But they aren't getting the value per buck compared to the digital PS5(if $399) or Series X.

So basically the same next gen as this gen then. The Xbox will sell combined 30 to 40 million units, and most of them will also get a PS5 because of regret. The rest will buy the PS5.

That happened to me dude I bought the xbox one because I had a 360 and thought xbox one would be as good as ps4.

I bought ps4 and it was light years better in everything and I threw xbox one in the closet it never a good exclusive so I left in there.
