I doubt Xbox fans will care about this. All they wanna do is plug it up, go online and start playing. That's it.

The fact we are in 2020, it should be standard by now which I can agree its sad at this point in time.

Edit: But of course, there's always mid-gen upgrade console that could support 6 if ever.

I'll admit not being up to date on WiFi standards is odd but they should get a pass on not having USB C. Simple fact is that their controllers don't recharge and still use AA. It might have helped with data transfer with external drives but if you're being honest, there's few of us that bother using that feature.

But yeah, the WiFi is kinda odd.

It should be more surprising that the PS5 has IEEE 802.11ax at all. These consoles were probably finalised last year at the latest, when the new standard was adopted. Still, 802.11ac has plenty of bandwidth, and I don't expect 802.11ax to be fully utilised for some time. PS5's early adoption seems a bit overkill. Besides, you want the fastest, most reliable network performance, you want Ethernet.

USB-C is hardly standard. Most new motherboards still come with at least 4 USB-A ports, with maybe 1 or 2 USB-C ports at most. Certainly USB-C has some advantages, but they're not enough to be essential upgrades on USB-A, which still works fine.

So yeah, a bit of a lame thread.

Just did a little reading on wifi 6 standard. It is innovative but the one thing that stuck out to me is that it's range is shorter than wifi5 (when the former is operating at 6ghz and the latter at 5ghz).

I know if I am not on the same floor as my 5ghz router the connection is considerably weaker. So if a person wants to use wireless on their PS5 their router better be on the same floor and fairly close to them

Still if Sony can add Wi-Fi 6 there is no reason Microsoft couldn't have done the same here. I use Wi-Fi on both my xb1 and ps4 and my switch lite and only my PC is plugged in with ethernet. I assume that will be the case with many other people as well.

PS5 is using USB C so it will charge a controller way faster than USB A. There is no point in using USB A right now. People aren't going to use AA batteries either they are going to buy the play and charge kit for x-series controllers meaning they will charge at slower rate than the DualSense will.

Why are you defending this its just bad all around if sony microsoft can do it there's no excuse here for this.

It is perhaps a mild disappointment that Wifi 6 is not present on the XseX, Wifi 5 will still do the job and be relevant for a few more years so it's not that much of a loss IMO. But having Wifi 6 kinda "future-proofs" your device so ultimately it would have been preferable I guess.

As for USB-C, it is being used for the controller so that's good news. Also would have been great on the console itself.

@ProtossRushX: I have a fiber connection :)

My main router is in my downstairs game room the modem is on the other side of the wall in a storage area so it is a 5' cat 6 cable from the router to that. The rest of the house is covered with wifi via a mesh system

(My house is a raised ranch style so only mainfloor and downstairs)

@ProtossRushX:

Again, using 802.11ax at this stage is overkill. At maximum, 802.11ax is about 38% faster than 802.11ac - a nice boost, but not a game changer, and much of it will not be utilised for years. Early adoption increases cost, so you need to consider whether that extra cost is worth it. I don't think it will make much difference.

USB Power Delivery is an optional add-on for USB 3.0. It can use both USB-A or USB-C connectors.

I know this is System Wars, so everyone is trying to accentuate the negatives of their competition, but I just don't think this makes much of a practical difference.

For the sake of convenience and less cables I get it.

No because some people don't want messy wires all over the place,or having the need to hide them.

Consoles have been wifi able since 2006 out of the box,is 2020 so yeah many people now use wifi rather than wired connection because of the convenience.

You don't have to downplay it just because the xbox doesn't have wifi 6,again as i already told you wifi 5 will be more than fine.

It'll be "fine" but the X-Series X is supposed to be a high end premium product. This wasn't a budget box.

Series S should have wifi 5 X shoulda had 6 and the usb c port.

Apple uses USB C on iPad's and Mac's its the future, all these products might require the power of a USB c connector.

X-Series X is supposed to be the future too. I guarantee the mid-gen refresh of x-series will have this stuff.

@ProtossRushX: You have no idea what WiFi is. You connect over 2.4ghz and had no idea what 5ghz is and if it was faster, so you needn't worry about having WiFi 6....you don't play any of your consoles online anyway. In fact you haven't touched your ps4 for well over one year.

Yes i know they should, but is not really something that will make or break it,i think they need more rechargeable batteries than wifi 6.

Is also not the first time MS cut features or use lower end ones to cut manufacturing cost.

The original xbox 360 in 2005 didn't even have an HDMI port, didn't have even cheap wifi which the wii and PS3 had,and used DVD it also had a different controller that was wired on the core model.

So fakeboy doesn't even know the difference between 2.4g and 5g yet we're supposed to believe he knows anything about Wifi-6 least of all is upset because MS didn't include it? WhTF games on Wi-Fi anyway? It's fine for downloading and browsing but if you're going to be gaming online it's the worst option. Not only that but you'd have to have a relatively short distance to your router and hope you don't have a lot of walls to go thru or the signal is degraded even further.

It's been said several times already, the only way to game online is hardwired. Fakeboy just being a fakeboy as usual

Says wifi 6 is not important

Says the usb c issue is just click bait .. all the USB connections are 3.2 and if you really need to you can buy an adapter cheaply

USB A to USB C cords are available more readily than USB c to USB c (and for cheaper )

wifi 5 is fine for online gaming. wifi 6 is simply for streaming movies and netflix.

Wifi 5 excels at all of those things. Wifi 6 simply has a higher speed cap and works better in "crowded" wifi connections.
