they are using the ssd to render in more triangles as the game is in motion. i been telling xbox fans about this but told me the ssd is just for loading games. in other words the ssd is used as ram pool.

because this is all about the ssd that the tech demo confirms what mark was saying in the deep dive that xbox fans saying i was a joke for saying it. the ssd is only going to load games a few seconds faster than the series x nothing else. well there using it more than just loading games.

It still is just for "loading games", it's just significantly better at it. It's no more a ram pool in the PS5 than a good NVME drive in a PC is a ram pool (which it ain't).

Yes and the XboxSex has an SSD too plus a better GPU so imagine how much worse the PS5 version will be in comparison!

Well, the only thing i read about the SSD of the PS5 is that it is faster that anything available right now, not what you're mentioning, but probably is because i didn't watched the stream

Just like every other hard drive on the market. SSDs allow for faster sequential reading of data than traditional hard drives. No one has argued to the contrary.

xbox can't stream data in while the game is in motion. streaming in triangles to give the game more detail.

@gifford38: Seems to be confusion... Is this going to help with pop in textures(?)? For instance, I have an SSD in my Pro and play Borderlands 3. Well everytime I load into a level, it takes a few seconds for everything to pop in. I dont know the technical terms, sorry. If so, that'll be a nice change.

Consolites need to leave the tech talk alone. This is embarrassing. Like, I feel uncomfortable and embarrassed by this thread being on the internet. TC needs to delete this thread and hope everyone forgets... Big yikes 😬

Literally every system that is on the market can stream data while the "game is in motion". Stop talking nonsense man. While its entertaining in some ways its just utter nonsense at the same time.

I meant stream sorry i didn't mean rendering. the ssd can be a ram pool though. meaning the items you don't see on the screen will sit in the ssd instead of sitting in the gpu. as the game is moving it streams in.

@gifford38:

Come on man the PS2 streamed data from a DVD how can't the Xbox series X would not be able to stream data from a SSD that even that is slower than the PS5 one still a hell of allot faster than dvd or any mechanical HDD.

moving data from the ssd straight to the screen. 10 billion triangles in that screen that is impossible to have in memory all at once so what we had to do is stream in triangles as the camera is moving.

that is what impresses me with the ssd.

This is not just a whole lot of polygons and memory. It’s also a lot of polygons being loaded every frame as you walk around through the environment and this sort of detail you don’t see in the world would absolutely not be possible at any scale without these breakthroughs that Sony’s made.”

Trying very hard to make a point that nobody disagrees with but is also available on other devices.

Sony can do it fast (suspect by the time it launches PC will have similar speed), but that doesn't mean the level isn't possible on other devices.

Not once does it say only available on PlayStation 5.

[The PS5] puts a vast amount of flash memory very, very close to the processor,” says Sweeney. “So much that it really fundamentally changes the trade-offs that games can make and stream in. And that’s absolutely critical to this kind of demo,” Sweeney explained.

People, please stop overhyping tech demos.

Also, please stop overhyping SSDs.

You console users did the same thing when you got 1080p. And 4k. And now SSDs.

Please stop.

How much read speed is being utilised while doing that will vary... You WONT see a difference if the game is only using 1-1.2GB/s from the NVME.

Which is why you can't see a difference between a SSD and NVME on PC because no game uses more than 300MB/s.

5GB/s NVME already exist on PC... 6.5GB/s NVME's are on the way from Samsung with room for improvement as PCIe 4x NVME's can hit 7.8GB/s.

Sony doesn't own this technology, it will be universal and will depend on the developer how much is needed based on their game.

Same reason why 30FPS is still a thing on a 12TFLOP Navi console.

You guys fall for the tech so much every generation.

In late 2020 you guys still have 30FPS games... Your PS5 GPU will be slower than a RTX 3060 and 6.5GB/s NVME's will exist and 10 core CPU's will be standard high end with 5GHz boost clocks on PC.

Get over your selves.

That same tech demo will be running on PC with 2x the framerate of the PS5.

so when mark was talking about it in the deep dive he was talking out of his ass to. this confirms that what mark was saying is true. these polygons are being loaded in every frame as you walk. thats all mark talked about in the deep dive. loading in assets as your moving in the game.

so again why am i a sucker?

sony ssd and the bottlenecks they got rid of is how this works.

they made a ssd in reality runs 10x faster than the hdd in ps4 to run at 100x faster.
