My ideal protagonist should be male, muscular, strong, possibly 7ft but this doesnt matter as much. They need to be a real badass. See master chief as an example. He even has robot armor, this is probably the best you can get.
Female protagonist have their place in some games not all. Sadly a lot of games have been feminized. See the metrosexual final fantasy games.
Even worse is tlou2 where they made a masculine Abby character. I give Neil drugsman credit for that one. He did something new in the industry.
Don't really care about GTA at this point, but I prefer female characters in 3rd person games, as I'd rather look at a woman's backside while playing the game, lol.
Rockstar's protags are terrible. They make them as physically unappealing as possible, stopping right before the point where players would reject them outright, for some illusion of depth. They talk and talk and talk, yell, yell, yell stupidly, since the writers and director don't understand visual storytelling. Do wonder if their female protagonist will be much less flawed because of the times.

If it is less flawed as you desire, they will be blasted for being woke. They going to be blasted for being woke regardless, so it doesn't really matter.
No issue from me. I just don't care for GTA6 and its sad to see the gaming media is hyping it when in return, GTAV was alright but nothing special either. RDR games on the other hand are great games IMO.
I think having more female protagonists is a good thing.
It means that male gamers such as myself get to assert complete control over a fictional female. I like nothing more than controlling a female character as though she is my slave who has to obey every command I give her with the push of a button or the tilt of a control stick.
Not at all, but I think GTA has much bigger issues re: mission structure and gameplay than addressing gender equality.
But, bullet points sell, and GTA’s audience is content with the same predictable, linear, scripted garbage mission design we’ve been playing since GTA III hit the shelves ages ago, so….
I just hope that she is correctly written and justified in the game and matches those unspecified requirements for the correct implementation of female protagonist. Otherwise, it will feel forced.😏
Also, anyone who played Saints Row games as a female shouldn't have no problems playing a female in the upcoming GTA6. My expectations are super low until I see a trailer & reviews before I'll consider purchasing it.
i read a male and female protag, in a relationship, committing crimes together, player control probably on rotation like gta v. saw speculation of local co-op and player decisions affecting the relationship i.e. you could f*ck each other over and end up deadly enemies. pinch of salt stuff but interesting if true.
as others have said r* have bigger problems to solve, primarily re-invent their mission structure

RDR2 play badly but atleast it has amazing story, setting, characters but just play badly.
The only reason to worry about the main character being female is the company going woke, but rockstar is the ultimate anti woke dev, so i am not worried, and male or female makes no difference if both are well written. Not interested into the game, tho.

STALKER is only series not to have a single female character not even NPC and STALKER 2 seem like again doing this even with bigger budget lol.

Jedi Fallen Order is one of the few Western games (only one I can think of) with a ginger male hero lead.
Male protag of female protag means nothing to me. What matters are the actual game mechanics, mission and level design. Not the model of my protagonist.
And unfortunately, I have no hope in Rockstar ever making a semi competent gameplay experience.
