My family is just like that, my mom might give me something, but nothing beyond that, same for christmas. Kind of ironic considering how big my family actually is

In my opinion if you love someone than you don't need to wait until a certain holiday to show them. I know that for Valentine's Day what some people will do is give candy to all of their friends. Besides in Japan some people do this:
