I think I may have this, but it's hard to burn what I don't use.

@ConanTheStoner: it's a little harder for me to define what's a classic in recent years vs 2004/5 where they've had the benefit of time. I think it's really shown how a lot of gen 7 were frauds that got by because of the score hyperinflation and an all time peak in media coverage for so many different AAA games. These last two years, it's like, I fucking love Uncharted 4, shit most people that have played it do, but is it a classic with its vocal minority? Is MGSV? Is Overwatch there yet?

I go back to a game like Uncharted 2 and I think it's good, occasionally not good, occasionally great. But it's always gonna be a classic for many. Resi 4 too. I dunno. It's hard defining classics anymore for me. Dark Souls 3 combat is so much better than the original's, it's much more demanding and precise, but does its better level design make up for its worse world design? Does the downward trajectory of the series' ability to generate hype as they become more refined instead of evolving stop what actually could be a better game from being a classic like the original Dark Souls (and Demon's)? I know some of the more confident users like to act oafish and think they know everything about anything with video games but it's just something the pedantic part of me wonders about when putting labels.

2016 was so good for video games, my god.

I spent most of 2016 under a rock with SFV.

Still need to finish The Witness (I will do this), get around to Dark Souls 3, TLG, FH3, would love to have the time for Civ 6, and then there's stuff like Hyper Light Drifter, Oxenfree, Inside, Stardew Valley, Superhot, Xcom 2, Titanfall 2, etc. that I'd love to try, but likely never will. :(

Really sucks man, it's like I skipped a year lol. What's got you jizzing yourself over 2016 though? Dark Souls 3?

Yeah, Dark Souls 3. Really hitting my stride with this game, and man, that would mean one of these games would have to be cut from my top ten:

Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Doom, Hitman, Ratchet and Clank, The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Titanfall 2, Overwatch, and Superhot, the first three which are a definite no, the middle four it could leapfrog over, and the last three it could easily cut.

On top of that I'm enjoying SMT: Apocalypse on my 3DS right now, and I'm slowly grinding through The Witness (although I don't think it would be on my top ten). Add that to 2016 games in my backlog (Shadow Blade, Dishonored 2, The Division, Owlboy, Orwell, Forza Horizon 3, Tokyo Weeb Sessions, WatchDogs 2, Stardew Valley, XCOM 2, FF XV, Abzu, Oxenfree etc.), the ones I'm gonna buy (Civ 6, Inside, HLD, Telltale's Batman, etc.) and it's like ****, the diversity of genres, IPs, systems that they hit, etc. has almost never been better. I'm sure at least three, if not more, of my all time favorite games came from that year. This year is just adding on top of that. This could make us rethink our 2004-2005 duology posts fam.
