@rmpumper: Sounds like going all digital is still a bad idea if there are gamers who can't purchase/play games due to unsupported countries.

That is like saying physical is a bad idea if there are gamers who can't purchase/play games due to it not being available in some countries.

Yes and it's coming to VR headsets as well (iirc), would be a fun game to play via that interface.

This series (Myst specifically) is one of my earlier games. I think it was one of my first CD-ROM-based games as well.

I look forward to trying the VR version.

There's nothing wrong with pursuing cutting edge graphics, but I think there should always be priority put on 1.) art direction, and 2.) performance.

Plenty of good game engines out there that run well, it's always a shame when you get a game and it runs slow or looks shabby.

It’s not graphics alone. It’s this push for “cinematic“ storytelling. Devs don’t know how to tell a story without cutscenes and walk and talk sequences.

Yep too much focus on:

  • Graphics
  • Big name actors
  • Trying to be like hollywood

All three are very bad for gaming.

Yes, the whole "trying to be like Hollywood" thing especially annoys me.

Storytelling in games should, in most cases, be a "show me, don't tell me" immersive type of experience. I don't want to be told a story, I want to experience the story unfold around me.

yeah this is legitimately a huge issue in gaming over the past several years. studios conflating the two mediums when they fundamentally have to deliver narrative in very different ways.

there are loads of sayings from famous authors about the importance of brevity in writing -

"you know you’re writing well when you’re throwing good stuff into the wastebasket." - ernest hemmingway

"beginning writers tend to be verbose. we can’t tell the difference between an essential detail and an inessential one." - chuck palahniuk

"a successful book is not made of what is in it, but what is left out of it." - mark twain

this sort of thinking is orders of magnitude more important for successful video game narratives. the more they have to say, the less we get to play

SILENCE!😮‍💨

Playing games is all about watching cutscenes, passive interaction and allowing the story to play out like movie. Games are a medium for having cinematic experiences. It is the only way to tell a story. Conform or be destroyed..😤

Lucky that it's just Sony's games. They're not very good anyway.

Interesting cope mechanism you got there!

I already said I wouldn't buy the game because it won't function based on the choices of the publisher. There's no drama in it from my end (surprisingly). The word "boycott" was initiated by Golden... You can ask him what he meant? Not sure.

I don't lose sleep on any game. God of War plays wonderfully on steam deck. I was happy to pay them for the game. If they don't want my cash-ola then we move on down the road.

Not buying the game is petty and bitchy. 🙃

I can't believe we have reached the point where people have become so dedicated at shilling that they are now attacking gamers who choose not to buy or support a game. I guess cancel culture strikes again.😂 Imagine if I gave a shit about random internet gamers opinions on my purchases. I will be as miserable as they are. Well to be fair, I just suffered through the poorly made game called Hellblade 2, so I am miserable.😔

I will see if my soul can stomach completing the embarrassment of a game called Hellblade 2.

You do realize this is an Xbox game??

Maybe it is more you just found out it is a Xbox game.🤭

Let's not confuse things. You're advocating for psn log in prioritized over accessibility. One of these things benefits Sony, one of them benefits gamers.

The one that benefits Sony is more important for the consumer right?😏

OP bought a PC-like handheld with limited PC functionality and is blaming a game publisher for their limitations.

Sometimes consumers make poor decisions. He can always build a PC and install Windows or buy a console.
