@MonsieurX: I don't know man - I think there are quite a few first person hack and slash games. I would say Skyrim being one.

@bowchicka07: Then could you classify LFD as Hack and Slash?

Okay. A lot of you guys are just wrong.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Diablo and Champions of Norrath are examples of Action RPGs.

Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and things like WH40K Space Marine and WET are examples of Melee/shooters.

Real hack&slash games are simple- a few combos, little-to-none in the RPG advancement department. Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Metal Gear Rising and any game ending in "Warriors" fits this bill.

I think Diablo by definition is hack and slash?

I think its enough to conclude that Hack and Slash means hacking and slashing through enemies?

What exactly defines the genre Hack & Slash?

There seems to be some first person shooters that tends to get tagged as Hack & Slash just cos you can ram through a bunch of zombies. Would the term Hack & Slash still apply for this?

The purist in me think its should only mean literately hack with Axe and Slash with Swords, but what do you all think?

It was quite easy to work through and rather short - but I would recommended it, it was fun!

I think its worth it dude, especially for cooperative gameplay. You can run through the entire campaign with friends and it can be hoot! - a wide array of multiplayer features as well.

There are so so many but yes it depends what you like.

You should be able to run Far Cry, Medal of Honour series, Battlefield 2, Dues Ex.

I would also try the Steam Greenlight project, there are a lot of indie games coming out that will run on anything (almost)

am I the only one who thought kingpin was awesome?

idk - I think folks are just getting bored with the formulaic nature of the game. Its hard to keep it innovative - its probably just run its course. Personally, I liked the campaign for popcorn value (Riley!!). Lots of multiplayer options. Compared to other similar games, <cough> battlefield <cough> , ghosts had a myriad of mutiplayer options (squads, extinction, survial). Meh, I liked it.

I think its impossible to keep a franchise fresh after so many runs.
