@MirkoS77: I wonder if it's lost on Sargent that such retribution for perceived wrongs is how Nazi Germany fell down the Holocaust rabbit hole.
Godwin's law?
I'm glad you brought that up because the creator of Godwin's Law regrets creating it specifically because modern Republicans resemble Nazis so much.
But when people draw parallels between Donald Trump’s 2024 candidacy and Hitler’s progression from fringe figure to Great Dictator, we aren’t joking. Those of us who hope to preserve our democratic institutions need to underscore the resemblance before we enter the twilight of American democracy.
And that’s why Godwin’s Law isn’t violated — or confirmed — by the Biden reelection campaign’scriticism of Trump’s increasingly unsubtle messaging. We had the luxury of deriving humor from Hitler and Nazi comparisons when doing so was almost always hyperbole. It’s not a luxury we can afford anymore.
Oh, for sure. Some of my favorite conversations are in my group from college which has:
Religion: atheists, agnostics, Protestants, Catholics, one Jew, and 3 young earth creationists
Political: Democrats, Republicans, a few hard core Libertarians, and an anarchist
Class: ranging from a household income of 30k a year to almost half a million a year. One of them makes pretty good money but comes from a family that never topped 6k a year.
Social: rural, urban, straight, gay, trans (fully transitioned), family heads, single, grew up in the states, came from other countries
This is a group I love to speak with, and one in which I prefer listening to talking myself. This is how you gain experiences broader than your own.
@horgen: I'm shocked.

@sargentd: Ah yes, the whole retribution against imaginary slights angle.
@sargentd: Even the prosecutors don't care about Stormy Daniels. They care about the election interference.
@lamprey263: If he is, won't Republicans demand to, "lock him up?"
That brief time where Colonel Sanders was played by Norm MacDonald
Oh, that's a good one. It seems like a wild fever dream in hindsight.
