I got into video games in the first place 40 years ago because it meant I didn't need to find someone to play with. Over the years I played some local multiplayer at a friend's home but I never played online multiplayer till 2017 and only did it a few times. Some of my friend's are gamers but we don't necessarily play the same games anyway and playing online with strangers can be a bit awkward at best.

I believe the first Nintendo game I ever played was Wii Sports at a friend's house. The first Nintendo console I ever owned is my New 3DS XL which I bought in 2017, first game played on that was Super Smash Bros.
For what it's worth, I am 62 and I have a Switch. I also have a New 3DS XL, a PS4 Pro and 2 gaming PCs.
I have over 250 games between PC, 3DS, Switch and PS4 and the vast majority are digital so very few physical copies.
I also bought some games from the PlayStation store's holiday sale:
Gravity Rush Remastered
Gravity Rush 2
Journey
Kindome Hearts 1.5 & 2.5 Remix
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
Titanfall 2 Ultimate Edition
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
On order from Amazon arriving this week:
Kirby: Planet Robobot (3DS)
Kirby: Triple Deluxe (3DS)
Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)
I bought a bunch of games from the Steam winter sale: | QUAKE Collection
Far Cry 3 - Deluxe Edition
DARK SOULS™ II: Scholar of the First Sin
Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
Far Cry 3 - Blood Dragon | ||
State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition
Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour
The Sexy Brutale |
I was interested in the Switch when it came out but wanted to wait and see if it would be successful. I bought one in October and considering the 225 or so hours spent playing Breath of the Wild I have no regrets. Although I have been primarily a PC gamer since the 1980's I had friends who owned Nintendo consoles and I always liked the fact that Nintendo seems to be the one console maker that remembers that games are supposed to be fun.
I have 2 limited-edition games pre-ordered for 3DS:
The Alliance Alive
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology
Both come out in March.
As far as PC games, I have a huge backlog and I usually don't play multiplayer so I generally don't buy games when they come out, I wait till the price drops. I don't have any 2018 releases in mind for PC that I would definitely buy in 2018.
There are some PS4 games coming in 2018 that I may get:
God of War
The Last of Us 2
Shadow of the Colossus Remake
As for the Switch, the only 2018 release I can think of that I would definitely be getting would be Bayonetta 1 & 2. If Metroid Prime 4 actually comes out in 2018 then I might get that.
