That speaks for itself. Plus hype is easier to generate when people have spent time away from a franchise.

The activision/Ubi/EA way of maddenizing franchises has exhausted itself. The candy crush purchase does kinda demonstrate where peoples priorities are now.

Game development to me will always be a long term investment for a hopefully good payoff if plays well and gets the right amount of attention.

What people in entertainment should focus on, I think instead of trying to mega outdo themselves in every iteration and scope, is focus on how they distribute content and challenges in the game.

Its almost its own challenge of trying different ways to entice people with the same old mechanical, animation, plot and game devices over and over and over again. No matter what console or fancy schmancy VR set its on. Yeah you can make new ways to experience this stuff, but the same entertainment will be founded on the same old tricks and elements.

@Jag85 I can already guess how A.I. will be affected. its inevitable. When things are down to one's and zeroes eventually the computer has to pick a street. If more variables or choices are added to the mix, its choices are harder to predict in interaction

@ryogapower @platinumking320 eehh. not really. I played rage on release day. rage had races for cash. It would've been successful and focused if instead of just being an action adventure, it was about a giant cross country race. We'vent had real car combat w/ earning trees since road rash and twisted metal.

my points just that theres no greater drive or more enticing primary objective to all these objectives and missions, than to complete em and finish the story or game.

If suppose the objectives were about winning a race, which is a more immediate player incentive, theres a greater sense of urgency. and maybe a better urgency than FF lightning returns because thered be, no clock in the background, just an uncertainty of how far you're falling behind, or how creative you'd have to be to catch up.

Instead of so many companies GTA and Elder Scrolls chasing, Ubisoft should do something entirely different with its open world games to break away from Assassins creed.

The cross country racing that Driveclub is trying to do? I'd rather see an 3rd person open world combat survival race. Where there's just as much on foot adventure, and preparation as there's road warrior. Where you have to maintain your vehicle just like you maintain your ship in AC4.

It could be sci-fi, it could be post-nuke setting, could be near future setting but we should have a 'hidalgo, amazing race, oregon trail framework of an action game by now where 'resource management, cool secret detours, and the tortoise and the hare' have actual game mechanic resonance.

*Taps feet with arms crossed*

Cmon Ubisoft. Just gave you a free idea. Do something with it.

@TheKokopelli Must've been the pedigree of GTA, Zelda and...oh wait...Last of Us? Oh well Last of Us got the 'Uncharted bump'. I'm scratching out Colbert's name for now.

I think we've always had signs that we chose to be the tyrant. Liquid's Speech in MGS

"you enjoy all the killing." came before we had Spec Ops

even Max Payne quotes....

"Something wicked, this way comes. Max Payne at large. " establishes you as the terror and the mobsters as the fearfully underpowered.

We still have buffers, and real world sensibilities. I think theres a deep adrenaline admiration for the aesthetics or art of ficitionalized violence, while still being horrified at the signs of real suffering. Many of us players probably protested Iraq as those who felt it was their duty to join. Simulated conflict have been at the origin of the majority of games going back frankly...millenia. Many sports games, down to tabletop are simulated warfare at their core, and the origins of team competitive goal games.

But it'd be better if morality narrative in violent games was no longer binary but a matter of surviving chaos like Akira Sleeping Dogs Children of Men or TLOU.

Thats why I was really hoping for Rainbow Six Patriots.

makes sense. They're below her intelligence level. If Dr. Bones from the tv show were in the same situation it'd be equally awkward.
