I see the reason to buy a PC but the advantage of buying a console is so you shouldn't have to worry about upgrading little things all the time for at least 5 years or so. I don't know the first thing about gaming PC's, upgrading processors or video cards, what's the best brands, etc.
I built my PC from scratch three years ago for just under $1000. Haven't updated a thing yet. I'm getting closer to needing to, but when I do, it won't cost as much as a new console would. Over time, if you're willing to be fairly conservative, it's cheaper than getting consoles. Game prices more than make up some of the cost, too.
Also, it doesn't take much to learn what you need to do to keep up to date. Most of the time, you don't need to do anything. Sometimes, games will be weird, but Googling solves 99% of problems pretty easily.
And mods. I'm playing the original Dark Souls with all the DLC (which I bought a few years ago for $6) with an HD texture pack and another mod that improves performance. I can't play Dark Souls 3 yet (for several reasons), so going through the first game again this way has been fantastic and wouldn't be possible on a console.
