Last of Us 2 Remaster in the works?

A new version of The Last of Us 2 for PS5 could be on the way - if the words of the series' composer Gustavo Santaolalla are anything to go by.

Appearing on an episode of the Blender podcast, Santaolalla talked about his cameo in The Last of Us Part 2, revealing (in Spanish, machine translated) that in a "new edition" of the game, players will be able to approach the composer in-game and request songs for him to play. This was all that Santaolalla said on the topic, but it's got fans convinced that the rumors of a The Last of Us 2 re-release are actually true.

We first got to reunite with Ellie and Joel (five years after the events of the first game) back in June 2020 - a whole three years ago now. Although the game still holds up today, it's important to remember that The Last of Us Part 2 was only released on PS4 - with a free PS5 upgrade released almost a year later - which isn't quite the same as a game designed for the current-gen PlayStation from the ground up.

Although The Last of Us Part 2 doesn't technicallyneeda re-release, I can't say I wouldn't be interested in replaying it with all new bells and whistles attached. Especially since Santaolalla's quote makes it sounds like Naughty Dog plans to add some new features to the game that we didn't get in the original release.

It also makes a lot of sense to haveThe Last of Us Part 1and The Last of Us Part 2 on the same console, especially with all the renewed interest in the series thanks to HBO'sThe Last of Us TV show.

Thoughts, SW? would you be interested in an updated, remastered TLOU 2? I would especially if they cut some of the bloat out.

Believe it to be true, don't care as I don't care for the game. Story is ass, the shift from a character-driven narrative structure to a theme-driven one destroyed what I loved about the game.

My very first original love was actually the N64, so i used to be a sheep, but only back when Nintendo cared about quality and not gimmicks that attracts the eye of a child.🤭

Doesn’t surprise me at all really. Not too interested in this franchise myself though so doubt I’d ever get it, even whenever it hits the bargain bin. Way too many other games interest me much more.

It'd be funny as hell if a TLoU II remaster or remake arrived before the promised multiplayer for the original release three years ago.

After TLOU Part 1 remake on PS5/PC I wouldn't be surprised, but it's not unexpected this wouldn't go to PC, perhaps it will get a cheap upgrade on PS5 to coincide with it, but if they stagger it then this will look like a blatant cash grab and a waste of Naughty Dog's time. And increasing worrying on a trend of creative bankruptcy.

On another note, changing up their business pattern to be more PC inclusive wasn't going to come without its problems, but this staggered release model seems to be exacerbating the situation possibly and keeping devs bogged down in the process. They still don't even offer entitlement and progression bridging between platforms, or even offer their subscription service to PC users with local support, nor appear interested in it, and not even trying to make their subscription service better to contend with Game Pass.

I guess we can see why Sony really didn't like the idea of MS buying COD, because they seem very resistant to growth, and more about trying to preserve the status quo. There's no half-assing a middle ground.

They still have to release the PC version. So, any enhancements that they add will be used to milk the cows once again. Let's just hope that the PC version doesn't end up another broken disaster at release.
