Jokes aside, it's still a meh for me. I never did like the Mafia franchise.

So, the game is best played on Twitch.
Yea, definitely upped the cutscenes from what remember of the original mission. Could quickly get on your tits.
Altered the Tommy Angelo as well, he seems abit murder happy.
Don't tell ghost, but once again Mafia 1 gameplay is being shown, this time the remake, and once again the player is doing little more than hiding behind shit and taking pot shots.
Pls no one tell him that this would in fact be an example of why the game has shallow gameplay, and weirdly commits all the contemptible sins cup n ghost bitch about, that they are weirdly in denial about Mafia committing.
Shit, I'm sold. I just hope it's not glitchy out of the box like Mafia III kinda was at first. Outside of that... this game is a looker.
@with_teeth26: Found a new one. Better watch fast before this gets taken down as well.
thank you good sir.
for the trailer, game looks pretty, but they turned it into a cover shooter. not sure how I feel about that.
not a fan of the big glowing waypoints, OG Mafia didn't have those I dont think. hope they can be turned off.
also, not a fan of Tommy's new voice actor.
However, it seems like they got the atmosphere right and music right, which are two of the most important factors of the original.
EDIT: looks like the new vid was taken down as well, at least I was able to watch it first.
@with_teeth26: 2K really hates the trailer. Just gonna keep updating till it comes out officially, I guess. Thanks for the heads-up.
Wasn't Sam injured in a mission taking place at a gas station? I may be misremembering the original.
The remake is visually stunning and the gunplay feels good. Some of the new character models and voices are really off though, most notably Tommy and Paulie.
Looks amazing. They have nailed its setting, atmosphere, improved its core gunplay. Im officially hype.
Hey @ghosts4ever....So how you liking that popamole gameplay ?
Yes it looks afine. they also improved its core gameplay. although i dont like cover system but i can live with it as long as game is so good. also theres no regen health.
this is remake done right. still Mafia 1 is classic so no Mafia game in future going to be better than original Mafia 1.
Pretty neat. Reminds me if how games used to be designed back in the day. Basically interactive movies with some shallow gameplay mixed in to heighten the tension and create a sense of interactivity.
That description sounds kind of negative, but it can be pretty enjoyable to follow along on the ride if the story is engaging enough. In Mafia it was imo. Very few video game have an arc like Mafia (only other one I can think of is Assassin’s Creed 2).
Might pick this one up actually.
Looks excellent, the original is still one of my all times favourites and the only game I have ever finished twice.
The environments, lighting, and weather effects are great. The gunplay, however, looks like something passable from 5 years ago.

The shooting at the start looks a lot more enjoyable, because he isn't always in cover. I need a good variety of being in cover and not shooting from cover.
Looks.... okay I guess. Gameplay is iffy. Hope there's more to it than wave after wave of enemies to shoot at from from cover.
Pretty much the OG game tbh. Go to area, shoot dudes A to B.
Although that was more of a point and shoot with slower paced gameplay and insane damage. Could drop in a few hits, very basic.

Think you've been hanging around GS too long.
It looks decent/ good but it's no GTA. I hope they add new innovations to it but it looks like just a copy and paste job from the first game.
@bussinrounds: my freind i uses the word core gunplay ie actual shooting that is seem improved but guns have less recoil and cover shooting i dont like.
What matters in Mafia is story and atmosphere more. Mafia 2 is worse than original because its story is worse and so mission design. Core gunplay is better.
@warmblur: It looks 10 times better than GTA lol. GTA5 lack any kind of challenge while Mafia 1 was hard. This one doesnot even include health regen.

Not even close it looks good don't get me wrong but it's not even in the same league as GTA. Mafia 1 is a harder game then all of the GTA's no question about that but just because it's harder doesn't make it a better game.
@warmblur: Mafia has better driving, better shooting, beter story, better world.
GTA is better at nothing. GTA5 is one of the worst game i have ever played.

Comparision video. while this looks worthy remake but charm of original is still untouchable.
Visually yea, looks very nice.
Better than most of the Xbox showing if we're being honest.
It looks humble now, but at the time the original Mafia was kind of mind blowing.
@ghosts4ever: Your boy Mack's sounding a little scared about this remake and he's a massive Mafia 1 fan, as you know.
Maybe mods will fix this too ?
@bussinrounds: I also have mix thoughts about it. Not very impressed by combat but foing to play it for story and atmosphere. I also like Mafia 2 alot. But no mafia game will surpass original Mafia.
Stalker has rich modding community. If Stalker 2 cant support mod i would ditch it.

2K will send a cease and desist if you do though they will come to your home like the men in black.
@bussinrounds:
Do you know mack like Rainbow six vegas and think they dont make games like this anymore?? LOL!
Mack like only old games. he dont care if old games are dumbed down.
i still remember 2008 to 2012 was dark gaming period and we got nothing but COD clones.
things starting to get better since 2016.
He also made a terrible terrible video comparing 2010 to 2020.
Im still old enough to think how bad 2010 was when run of mill wall cover shooter like mass effect 2 praise as Deep RPG, we got the release of first worst splinter cell game ie conviction that gone full action game.
All I wanted was mafia 1 in the mafia 3 engine and that seems what we are getting I was pleased to see hanger 13 was not moving this open world and focus on getting the story right.

[Classic Mode] has all the settings dialed into what the experience was like if you’ve played the original Mafia. so that’s great for the hardcore fans to experience the game at that level with the same driving controls, the police reacting to your infractions the same way. And then we go all the way to experience the story, you can dial all that stuff back.
Theres classic mode that make it play like original Mafia.

I bet it'll change a few things like getting pulled over if you go over the speed limit, ect.. but it's not gonna do stuff like add recoil, bullet damage and re-design encounters to compensate for the more challenging gameplay that would bring.

Gameplay was never strong point of Mafia as oppose to its oscar worthy story and its 40s atmosphere. but yeah im not expecting remake to be better or even close to original.
btw, did you liked Mafia 2?
it was also great if not better than original so im expecting it to be Mafia 2 quality.
Nobody noticed the garbo lips sync? Its kinda important in a game like this. Or maybe i am spoiled by TLOU2, dunno.

Mafia 1's combat was great. You couldn't auto-pilot the combat, like you can in popamole games. You lost a lot of health when shot and the guns had a lot of kickback to them. You can also get stun-locked from a shotgun blast, which meant you were as good as dead and a single shotgun blast from close range usually just killed you right then and there. Same thing with tommy gun bursts.
Every story-related combat encounter in Mafia 1 was intense and memorable. The encounters were usually set up incredibly well, and combat was lethal so you had to pay attention. In the fourth mission you were fighting a handful of guys at a shitty motel, and it felt great when you managed to pull it off. In the fourth mission of Mafia 2 you're gunning down policemen by the dozen, and it barely registers with you because the cover system is basically doing the fighting for you. Just pop those moles at your leisure and proceed to watch the next cutscene.
