Your thoughts, SW? Do you think it will be effective? I think they should not allow user reviewers for at least a week. I'm not sure what one day is going to do. I wouldn't rely on someone who literally just popped the disc in for an hour or two. Even if you binged for 8 hours, I still don't think that's enough.

Good! There's no justification for reviewing a game you haven't played. You played it and hate it? Fair enough - "bombs away". But otherwise sit it out.

Of course, now people will just wait a day to pretend they played it before bombing. But hey - it's a start

User reviews on a site where any random Joe Bumfuck can just create an account and immediately deposit their opinion like bird shit on a statue will always be a joke.

Steam user reviews is the one system that comes to mind that's worth anything useful. It only allows people who have actually played the game to review it, and it shows how long that person has played the game. Even then, many of the reviews are one liners with zero useful information, banal jokes, and the usual review bombs.

What allowing humans to express their opinions freely has shown is that most of the time they really don't have much to say that's worth listening to.

Not surprised since pretty much purged negative reviews of Death Stranding, figured it was only a matter of time before they did something similar here. Common linkage seems to be Sony might be pressing Metacritic.

The reviews often don’t even have anything to do with the game just look at the Metro games a while back after the Epic store saga. Maybe tie in Metacritic into actual gamer profiles data like gamerscore/tag and PS level/trophies. That would be a nightmare to incorporate, but would give MC more credibility.

User reviews are just as much (if not more) trash than "professional" reviews these days. I have no idea why that website still exists.

If the game already did really well even with the review bombs I don’t think they should delay the user scores. If anything they should try to find other ways to make them more useful. Maybe a character minimum or give the user graph options so they can rate the specific aspects of the game. When people are angry they lash out and vent and being able to give their opinion at the time in the form of a zero on Metacritic is not the worst problem one can have.

i really didn't like tlou2 but you'd never catch me wasting my time writing a scathing review and posting it to metacritic. that's just sad.

There is nothing wrong with legit user reviews. It's the ones that are clearly fake that are the problem. It depends on the game. If it's a shorter game, then 8 hours is a lot, but you also have to take into account that this person most likely rushed through it. I want to hear from an informed player who took the time to play it and get a good understanding of the game in its entirely.

I bet you think reddit is an accurate representation of an audience, too.

So, we'll see a lag in review bombing? Funny that all this negative attention surrounding the game has very much acknowledged plenty of what TLOUS2 set out say. Sometimes the video game community (or portions of it) just sucks.

The game had multitudes of 10's on June 19th. I've yet to play the game (it's currently on my counter,) but I wanna finish Beyond a Steel Sky, then play the TLoU again, before dipping into the second. Regardless, there's spamming on both sides, and it's dumb.
