PS5 slim announced!

Makes me appreciate how the PS3 could be placed vertical or horizontal all by itself. No extra stand needed because they didn't add some protruding bullshit on the sides to make it unbalanced.

Looks ugly, no better than the original.

Sony wants you to buy the digital version of the new PS5. By creating an add-on that will exceed the cost of the PS5 that includes the BR drive, they have clearly demonstrated they want you to avoid the disc.

They will most likely produce quite a few more digital versions of the PS5 than physical to encourage digital purchases. Not to mention, over charging for the add-on making it more expensive than both skus lol.

Let's not start with a $30 vertical stand, that used to be included lol.

Sony is going all digital and all gouging.

Easy pass.... Not a pro model, just the same innards that have been thus far easy to pass on as well. I'll wait till the price and value match before going in. If they released a dedicated handheld id be more urgent to purchase.

lol….not only is the digital version more expensive than the current console, it only comes with a horizontal stand, and Sony are charging 30 bucks if you want to place your console vertical.

Check my above comment - I already have said I am 100% digital. Plus, why would I buy a new XSX when I already have one? This is not a Xbox One vs XBox One X. Games will not run better on the new SKU.

Not a very impressive announcement. I kid you not, I have 6 fat PS5's so I won't be getting this. I know it's getting crushed in sales but I really think the Xbox Series X was the most well made system this gen, I have 5 of those.

Another price increase by Sony? What are they doing this gen? Lack of games but numerous price increases. Generally, consoles go down in price, not up. It is becoming harder and harder to support Sony and their business practices.

I went 100% digital after I sold my massive video game collection and I haven't experienced a moment yet where it's been a problem. I actually prefer the ability to launch games without a disc. It's just the future, always look to PC for the way things should be. Like imagine having to change a cartridge in your phone for every time you open a new app. Physical media is archaic and that's just a fact, it's on its way out.

That's true. But I got the 2022 PS5 model and it's supposed to be lighter than the 2020 model

It is, there's 3 versions of the fat PS5 and you can find teardown videos on YouTube. The latest SKU takes up very little space inside that big case, and it's very lightweight. They probably just took the 3rd fat PS5's guts and put it in this smaller case, which it would easily fit in.

I always said a smaller version of the PS5 would look sick in that design, but how did Sony f**k THAT up. It looks shit.

That said, I'll very likely get a PS5 Slim. The size of the original PS5, was a deal breaker for me. I want one I can tuck away.

It really does. I'm shocked Sony f**ked this up. It somehow looks worse than the original. I never thought the original looked cheap, just looked like an abomination. But for me, the slim is the only option.

But I gotta hand it to Sony, making a slim version of every console and every handheld they've ever done has become their hallmark.

If the PS6 ends up weighing 50KG and needs a forklift to be wheeled into my house I can always go "eh, I'mma wait for the slim version"

Most of the leaked Xbox stuff was just prototyped ideas. It also mentioned some handheld and the TV streaming thing that got canned and a different updated version of the Series S that got canned. Instead they went for one with a 1TB storage upgrade.

Some stupid ideas make it, see PS Portal. This time MS has had the benefit to get a feel for the public reaction.

I honestly think the chances of a digital Series X is slim, unless the idea was to have an affordable Series S, a mid priced digital Series X and an expensive disc based Series X like the PS5. That may be a consideration, but MS might consider it would be one too many SKUs at this point and ditch the idea. But dropping physical discs mid gen just will not happen. It's weird and would cause Xbox unnecessary problems.

@dabear data shows that majority of xbox owners are poor which is why XBSES is the console that has majority hold over at XBOX camp. Also Data shows that Lems are very poor which is why they don't buy games any more, so why would MS make an usb player for a console that lems are to poor to buy games for (hence GP)

Likely because leaving it at $399 would have made that plus the disk drive $20 cheaper than the version with the Blu Ray drive.

I'm assuming they'll claim chip-shortage, inflation when asked, if they comment at all.

I think the detachable drive is a great idea, but I wasn’t imagining them putting it on the console itself. I thought it would be a plug and play kind of thing. Either way, hope Sony continues with the idea for the next systems. Other than that, the Slim disc version is ugly ! Also, I assume we can’t use our existing custom covers? either way, I don’t think I’m getting this!

The digital had to go up, or they had to price the disc drive higher(could have made the drive $99). I'm not sure why it was so cheap to begin with though. $100 more than a series S is a crazy bargain. I think $449 is priced right for what you get. Now that the gens half over though, those prices should have dropped. I guess they will once PS5 Pro gets announced.
