Returnal was released April 30th and MLB released on the 20th. It charted 3rd with only a single day's worth of sales for the entire month. That's actually impressive for a new IP being sold on a single platform that doesn't have a large user base.

Returnal is the first of its kind. We've never had a rouguelike game of this scale and quality before. It's unprecedented for a game in this subgenre to sell like hotcakes at this price.

It absolutely is the first of its kind at the AAA scale. Most games in this subgenre are budget indie-riffic crap. You're having a meltdown because Sony took a releatively lowkey subgenre that no one used to play and turned it into something that the masses are enjoying. This is why studios like Housemarque love to partner with Sony. Good things happen for them.

No other game has successfully combined those elements the way this one has. There is nothing like Returnal. It looks and plays like an AAA game while being as brutally challenging as those lesser known indie games. That's why it's so successful. Gamers want to be challenged, but they also want their game to look and play like it wasn't made by 2 guys in a basement.
No one has an Xbox. That's why Microsoft is hiding their hardware sales lol.

I know Returnal being the first actual game on a Playstation in a while not jacked up with walking simulator segments, cutscenes and QTE's has Sony fannies jacked up on the hype wagon, calling a roguelike the "first of its kind" -- I guess it's just not a big deal to everyone else that's been enjoying gameplay games this whole time.
You know what's funniest of all? The fact these brainless fannies are not celebrating the success of MLB The Show 21 for being the best seller despite being a Playstation-published game. I guess it being a multiplatform game has something to do with the Playstation fans not talking about it.
