The Ascent 6/10 on Gamespot

The Ascent Review – Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy - GameSpot

Disappointing was looking forward to this.

ACG and Skill Up gave it great reviews though so seems a mixed reaction.

Will still play it tonight to see what it think.

Yeah I saw that. TBH those foibles make me tired just thinking about playing around them. I suspect I won't in fact like it much. We'll see

Will give it a try on Gamepass. May be another case of Gamepass fodder we'll see.

Another Xbox flagship title not really reaching the level needed to seriously compete with Sony. At least gamepass is cheap…

That being said, had a look around the net and the game looks like a sloggy unrewarding mess, which really sucks. Was looking forward to this one. Still give it a whirl at some point.

returnal says hi. xbox fans chewed that game up for being 1080p even though it scored a 9 and said returnal sucks.

Seems like you are a bit confused. Returnal is NOT an indie game. Returnal cost $70, funded and published by Sony.

Who said Returnal sucked? Don't confuse a game flopping in sales to a game sucking.

Kinda sucks that the reviewer spends so much time complaining about the game being hard. On the other hand one of my favourite reviews ACG says it's one of the most fun he had this year. I'll check for myself later.

housemarque has been making indie titles for ps4 for years.

outland, reso gun, alien nation, matter fall, nex machine

all look like indie titles to me.

this was there first big third person title.

the other games scored well to.

they been 2nd party as well until lately were sony bought them very recently.

im sure Microsoft funded ascent as well. companies usually fund second party as well.

@gifford38: Returnal isn't an indie, Ascent is. Returnal was published by Sony, Ascent is not published by MS. Returnal was a 2nd party exclusive, Ascent is 3rd party.

If the game is funded and published by Sony, it is not an indie title. Returnal was both. Indie titles don't have a look, contrary to popular belief. Any game can be an indie title. What makes a game indie is how it was funded. Indie games are games independently made without a publisher.

The Ascent is not the first big third person title. Where did you manufacture that claim?

Do you have proof that Microsoft funded The Ascent or are you making stuff up?

Even Ori is not indie because it was funded and published by MS but folks still incorrectly call it indie.

Ryse Son of Rome is an indie title.

I don't consider paying to keep a game off other platforms funding a game. That would be equal to saying Sony funded Deathloop, Final Fantasy VII and GhostWire when they just paid to not make it available on other platforms. The Epic Games funding is actual funding towards the game development. $5,000-50,000 is not much but it is something.

definitely a good one to try on gamepass. which I will be doing since I have a few days off here and was looking for something to play.

Doesnt matter... it's on gaehmpaeff... that makes it cool, that makes Microsoft cool and the hero of world of gaming.

Yeah there is one 30 .. I am not sure any game deserves a 30 unless it is completely unplayable

The issue with Returnal is that it scored a 9, you cows touted it as the best new IP ever, then the flaws started to show - and it was a sales flop.

Was there even a lot of hype for The Ascent? I know I listed it a few times on a XBox/PC list, but I never said :"OMG! THE ASCENT WILL BE THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!!!" I don't think anyone else did, either.

flagship? It's one of many games arriving on the service between now and the end of the year that raised an eyebrow but I don't think flagship is the right word. Those would be Halo Forza and probably Back 4 Blood.

I have played 30 minutes of this so far and I am enjoying it... I think it deserves a mid to high 70's score

The PC score for this is 75ish (doesn't have the 30 score from Metro in that one)... like I said before no game that is playable deserves a 30... mid to high 70's game IMO
