As my PC gets older, I've been thinking about this more and more. Here are the pros/cons the way I see it:

Xbox Series X

  • XSX's $500 is a steal! There might be a holiday bundle to make the pot sweeter.
  • Xbox 1st party games should be well optimized for the system.
  • Forward compatibility is nice even though the chance of me using it is low lol.
  • Can get physical games!

PC

  • Obviously you can get better hardware, but at a higher price.
  • Access to more games including old Sony games 😄
  • Don't have to pay for online multiplayer, but cheating is a recurring concern.
  • All digital, but can often get a discount.

My PC is 5.5 years old now (using GPU 980TI) so I would need to upgrade a bunch of things. The XSX looks good from a price standpoint, but adding the Live service complicates things.

What say you, SW? Have you considered between the two or always knew what you wanted?

Series X would look great on your LGCX.

PC just to pricey at the moment to be an option in my opinion.

XSX because I do not feel like sitting at a desk to play games, if you don't mind that and money is no object than PC will be the way to go (more games and generally at a cheaper price)

GPU prices are just silly now. A gpu that would outperform the xsx by a big margin is priced even more silly.

I’m very happy with xsx, and even happier after the games shown at e3. On too of that, the few pc gp titles that aren’t on xbox work fine on my aging pc, and are included in gamepass.

I already got a PC that's comparable to the consoles at the end of last year.

I was planning to skip the Series X, but if I can get a decent price for my One X ... I may upgrade. FPS boost has made it more desirable to me.

My 1080ti goes toe-to-toe with state of the art console technology

I never paid a single cent for online game since I've been gaming on the interwebz since 2001 and never will.

I would only get a console if GPUs prices keep rising to 10.000 dollar, to be honest.

Between the two, I'll pick PC. Mine is about 6 years old as well but it still does what I need it to do... photo and HD video editing. I'll hold off on upgrading until Indiana Jones releases the required specs. If it's announced that it's not coming to PS5, I'll still be able to play it.

I prefer consoles myself. They’re more convenient for me and there’s just something about them that I like over PC. Maybe it’s nostalgia or whatever. Also I already have a huge library of games for the Xbox console ecosystem so it just makes a lot of sense for me to go with the Xbox Series X.

Had to stop reading there. What makes you think a bundle is a possibility when there is no supply currently, i.e. plenty of demand?

PC. you can play games however you like on hardware you choose at a performance level you are happy with.

...though now is a really really crappy time to be buying a PC (especially on the GPU side). i mean its a bad time trying to buy hardware in general but GPU prices REALLY suck right now.

I see bundles even now. But I know from previous experience Xbox does pretty generous bundles around the holidays. It's still 5 months from now so hopefully stock situation will be better.

Oh, you mean these bundles that cost as much as a decent prebuilt computer? 😂

PC easily. PC has the freedom of an open platform and endless customization from games to hardware. It's like choosing between a Bugatti Chiron and a Honda Civic. Both get you from point A to point B, but one does it much faster and better than the other.

Don't you have a PS5? Play multiplats on PS5 and xbox/pc games on your PC. I'd think that PC is still capable of running MS games that will also release on 2013 xbox one.

I prefer all digital games. All the physical copies do is just sit on your shelf and you may look at it once in a blue moon if anything to just clean the thick layer of dust off. It's not like they have all of the cool in box reading materials like lore, maps, comics, stickers, etc that old games used to. No, that's a premium charge of $120+ and you get a painted piece of plastic of an ingame character...cooooooool

It's hard to beat a PC with the plethora of mod options, sometimes even for niche games. The tweaking potential to change look and feel, The fact that it's so backwards compatible that you can play PC games dating back to the 80's including nearly every console up to a PS3. Also the option of 100% free software and games is still technically an option whether you like it or not, it's there. Then you have all kinds of front ends to choose from to launch your games like Launchbox, Playnite, Galaxy, etc. You can change your startup sounds, video and more. Don't like one controller, pick another. Interested in VR? ..just pick one. Headsets? There's like infinite options. You may have a higher upfront cost, but add up the cost of multiplayer, fewer options for game pricing/pirating and in the long run you can spend as much or more but you can also do thousands of other things.

Consoles are a toaster..it makes toast. That's it.

Yep, I do. It's my main. but I am interested in playing Xbox games. If PC wasn't so bad lately, I would go PC for sure. Like, what happened to the RTS genre? Completely dead I tells ya. But you're right, my PC should be able to handle Forza and Halo right?

I would normally recommend a PC, but these are not normal times. If you need something new right now, try to get an Xbox. It's going to be at least a year before I would recommend buying or upgrading a PC. Your 980 should still be viable for a while though if you are willing to game at 1080p.

Same can be said about an Xbox. Well under normal circumstances anyway. PC GPUs are so hard to come by, I’ve been telling people to just get an Xbox Series X for now. (If they can even find one of those). Luckily this news dropped today.

absolutely.. even more so actually because if you have a gaming PC, you really don't need an Xbox console..

not sure why we are stating the obvious though.. i'm just curious as to why @joshrmeyer would think otherwise..
