I have a friend who's trying to go through all the "ancient" platformers, including all pre-SMB stuff. He got around to Jungle Hunt, found it enjoyable enough. I recently gave it a replay as well on a browser version, just to check it out. First time I've played that game since the 80s haha. It's a cool little piece of platformer history, funny story in the manual as well.

I didn't care much for pre-NES console gaming, but I felt Jungle Hunt was one of the 2600s better games. Also enjoyed playing Combat with the older bro, think we discussed that once Eroica.

Aside from fighting games, mostly been out of the gaming news/loop this past year.

Formative stuff that initially drove my preferences would be SMB1, Double Dragon, Castlevania, Punchout, Contra, SF2, Ninja Gaiden, Zelda, DOOM, etc. To this day, still a heavy preference towards real time action with a good challenge. And specifically still love a good fighting game, platformer, beat em up, and just any great action title.

Lesser extent, Jungle Hunt was the first platformer I got into, Another World made me think cinematic gaming would be cool, Phantasy Star 4 got me into jrpgs which I enjoyed for a few gens.

Later I was so big into MGS3, it made me really buckle down and decide to work on games. Ended up using those skills across various other fields, became less about making games, but likely wouldn't have chosen this career path otherwise.

Yeah. Over a year ago, saw him mash up some tweets from Geoff Keighly and SkillUp. Called him out on Discord.

Not a big deal, just weird is all. Especially when he can't continue the convo on his own, why do it in the first place.

He just copy pastes others tweets, forum posts, reddit posts, articles, etc. as his own. Sometimes cobbles multiple together, which results in a scramble of nonsense ideas. Been doing it for years. This is why he doesn't continue the convo if you dig into what he says.

Atari 2600. My first gaming system, hand me down from the older bro. Some good memories, but eh, didn't care much for the games.

Modern systems, tossup between PS4 and XBoneX. Neither were bad, just at that point most everything I wanted was coming to PC. So my PS4 was a Bloodborne box and my XboneX was a NGB/NG2 box. Haven't bothered buying their new boxes.

Realistically it's probably some handheld. Would always buy these, they'd end up in a drawer a week later, then eventually just give them away. PSP topping the list of least used.

Yeah orange ranks were the wall for a few of my friends, but they eventually climbed. Just gotta keep at it.

Can be frustrating since people are still just unloading gimmicks at those ranks. Upside to that though, they usually commit to blocked/whiffed strings, so you can kinda just hang back and punish. And since most people are still playing "2d" at those ranks, start stepping and launching, **** their whole world up lol
