I'm very pleased they are remaking it.

As good as the game is , there are plenty of things to rework and fix . I rewatch many new people play the game and the problems are so evident. So many problems and frustrations can be eliminated or greatly reduced. The Last of Us newbies on PS5 / PC are going to have a much better and smoother time playing the game. And it's going to have increased accessibility options so more people can play or play the way they want to.

As far as price , if you really desire to play it ... you have options - play it when it's cheaper , game-share it , rent the game , play it when it inevitably hits PS+ , etc. It's not that big of a deal.

Nah. They have numerous other revenue and profit generators beyond gaming. Just read their quarterly and yearly reports on a regular basis. If something becomes unsuccessful they can drop it , sell it , or adapt and turn things around like they did with gaming. They can even venture into new things! Diversify. Expand if possible. Streamline when needed.

@Ibacai said:

Why do you roll up games for MS that are on PC but don’t do it for the PS4 games?

I mean, I know the answer but I’d really like to hear your spin.

Are you upset that I used the word "port" or something like that other guy ? I just labled them as such so people can easily understand which games I was reffering to without having to list all the games out. And these are afterthoughts , bonuses, not new games or significant remakes. But still may have some relevance.

  • Sony's Director's Cuts - Death Stranding , Ghost of Tsushima
  • Sony's remasters - Spider-Man , Uncharted 4 / TLL
  • Microsoft's ports from PC - Gears Tactics, Flight Simulator

Why does the word "port" trigger negativity by comparison, or why does the word remaster trigger such positivity in this particular instance for people?. If Sony released Killzone Tactics on PC and then brought it to PS5 afterwards I would call it a port from PC unless they classified it as a Director's Cut with new content or something else. Sony isn't special , and neither is Microsoft.

Would just calling everything ports or remasters really help anyone understand what I'm saying or feel better in any way?

This seems like unnecessary argument semantics to avoid the current situation and answering the question.

For those wondering who the top dog in wins was in recent years - (Game of the Year Awards Tracker)

  • 2015 - The Witcher 3
  • 2016 - Uncharted 4
  • 2017 - Zelda BotW
  • 2018 - God of War
  • 2019 - Death Stranding
  • 2020 - The Last of Us Part II
  • 2021 - It Takes Two

I don't know if Elden Ring or Ragnarok will have the most as Ragnarok isn't out yet. 1st-place runner-up isn't a bad place to be in though - Horizon Zero Dawn , Spider-Man , Ghost of Tsushima , Resident Evil 2 Remake , etc. Sekiro and Bloodborne even finished 3rd for that matter.

It's a good value if you're looking for a rental service for PlayStation. Cheap and lots of games.

It just seems like the first step. What they should in the short term

$pend and $acrifice a little more

  • At least 1 day and date indie per month
  • At least 1 day and date 3rd party AA-AAA game per quarter
  • Increased advertising , especially the day and date games
  • 1st party games guarantee (unless special partenerships)
  • 1st party games - 18 month maximum wait

In my opinion , they should view Extra/Premium Tiers more as "value adds" and "selling points" over profit drivers. Essential is already a HUGE cash cow profit driver for them along with 3rd party game / MTX / DLC royalties. Accessory sales also bring in a decent profit.

Maybe these

  • God of War - (series)
  • The Last of Us - (series)
  • Metal Gear Solid - (series)
  • Uncharted - (series)
  • Bloodborne
  • Shadow of the Colossus Remake
  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • The Last Guardian
  • MAG
  • Warhawk

I didn't want God of War , MGS , TLOU , and Uncharted to take up all 10 spots. I wanted to give some other games some shine.

If some people really want to split hairs and say these are elite at 90+ ...

  • God of War 2018
  • The Last of Us Part II
  • Uncharted 4
  • Demon's Souls Remake
  • Shadow of the Colossus Remake
  • Astro Bot Rescue Mission

And also want to split hairs and say these are very close to elite at 89 ...

  • Horizon Zero Dawn
  • Horizon Forbidden West

I'm fine with that.

Give those elite games a try if you like the genres , and work your way down from there. Greatness awaits.

  • Horizon Forbidden West - day 1. Big fan of the original.
  • Elden Ring - buy or rent from Gamefly sometime this year most likely. If not , then next year. I want to play the Demon's Souls Remake first to see how it all started. (I haven't played Demon's Souls or a Dark Souls game yet). I've only played Bloodborne. I also played the Nioh series and Sekiro.

It will be interesting to see what happens. The game is very likely going to be fantastic and better than the first in many ways , but there might be some obstacles to it hitting a 90 or better Metacritic

I was skimming through some of Zero Dawn's lower review excerpts , and I'm assuming based on those , we'll see some -

  • Zelda fanboyism in some media
  • Witcher III fanboyism in some media
  • Ubisoft-style open world games are seen as "tropey" or "copycat" in some media when it's not teh Witcher III or something else they love
  • Some random clickbait low score troll reviews

There's also some high standards of Sony games set by God of War , The Last of Us Part II , Uncharted 4 , Bloodborne - Some of the quality open world Sony games scored - (Horizon - 89 , Spider-Man - 87 , Death Stranding - 83 , Ghost of Tsushima - 82}

But there might be some growth potential compared to the first Horizon -

  • 50 - USGamer - they won't troll this badly again, right?
  • 80 - Easy Allies- should do better there
  • 88 - Game Informer - should do better there
  • And a solid amount of 80's or below for the first game that might score higher this time around. Who knows? Only time will tell.

Gamespot and Edge are some key sites. Only an 8 from one or both of those could keep it from a 90+ Metacritic.
