Rated Games

The RSM-HQ game list is not accurate in a 'favorite' order, namely with the sites set-up I've done my best to make the list explain my thoughts on each game, and how much I enjoyed them.

Also not all games I play have made this list, but rather, the ones I felt had a lasting effect.

*I also removed the ones that didn't interest me as a gamer. This is namely to avoid spite within the GS community, some of you actually liked those games. And would rather have a more rational conversation on those games, than hate mail.

If you'd like to know my harsh opinions on games such as 'Thief reboot', 'Dragons Age: Inquisition', 'Little Big Planet 3', 'The Witcher II', 'Dishonored 2', 'The Elder Scrolls Online', 'Ninja Gaiden II', 'God of War: Ascension', or any other game I've been critical about? Just PM me or something, let's at least be civil about it.

So take the list as you will, it's all just my opinion after all. Less hate, more love for games.

Kind regards

Game Release Date GameSpot Score Rsm-hq's Score

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim

Aegis Rim takes the storytelling principles from Odin Sphere and expands on it with branching paths seen in a lot of RPG/ Visual Novel games. Gameplay-wise it's a Tactical RPG with some depth and accessibility.

--

Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku (PSOne Books)

An amazing adventure that deserves all its cult status. It is the best Castlevania ever made! Going in depth is fruitless, playing is believing :)

--
9.5

Armored Core: For Answer

Such an improvement over AC4, still has horrendous framerate dips though not on the scale of previous instalment. Faster, more fluid, and far more options. Online is also a spectacle.

--
8

Bayonetta 2

Unlike the original this game possesses no sloppy port. What we do have is one of the/ if not best slashers in years! It's on the short side and has some silly filler content. None-the-less what is present here is Platinum quality (pun)

--

BioHazard 3: Last Escape (CapKore)

Mixed up the pacing, and I feel for the better. It's a really short game, yet stays on my mind when playing any Resident Evil game. It really is that fun.

--
9

BioShock

Rarely do I enjoy FPS's of this generation. Luckily Bioshock was a great change and very enjoyable. It's a linear game, yet it's filled with choices and great pacing. Giving some of the most fun power-ups I've ever played with.

--
7

Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Capcom giving old-school love and like recent downloadable Megaman, it's being faithful to the legacy it carries. It's the same as playing any retro Capcom game just with a paint job. That's good enough for me.

--
7

Bloodborne

I like Bloodborne. It had me at the edge of my seat alot, with amazing combat. Yet for all its glory I slightly prefer Dark Souls II. What you get with this game is very limited, putting quality over quantity.

8

Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon

Bite-sized retro love, not much to dive into unfortunately. But what's here is a nice callback for CastleVania fans, and mechanically well-made. A small taste of what's to come I hope.

--
6

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Successor to the Akumajo Dracula (Castlevania) franchise. And in many more ways a sequel to Symphony of the Night. Dare I state even improves upon in many aspects. The visuals are also much better than ignorance provides. But the technical issues are the aspect that cannot be ignored.

8

Braid

Despite being rather short its art style is beautiful. It's a refreshing leap forward for 2D platformers with puzzle elements. Just don't expect more than a four hour playthrough.

--
8

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair

A multiplayer CastleVania game? Confusing right. It's an alright game for a short while, then you realise just how mediocre it is for a game it tries to be. Lacks the passion of past games and coop never seems to fit the way the game plays.

--
6

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

One of my favourite DS games, personally rank it as the best DS Castlevania. I liked the steep difficulty curve and hub level.

--
8

Chrono Trigger

RPG's has always been a rare love with me, but can honestly say Chrono Trigger is amazing. It's essentially perfect in every way I can think in regards to first class role playing games. So much in this game is surreal, never feels unfair or tacked on for extended length. It's a love-child to gamers!

--
9

Code of Princess

A Beat em' Up that lets you play as every character seen in-the-game is quite the achievement. Even the core cast are fun to play as. Unfortunately requires tons of tedious grinding to get the games best content. & the actual levels are very uninspiring and one dimensional. Best played in small sessions.

--
6

Critter Crunch

For puzzle gamers this is a must buy, it's cheap, plays great. & art-style is lovable. All combined with rich animation quality. The gameplay modes are huge, making this a game that sets-itself apart from the competition

--
8

DOOM

D00M (IV) is one of those reboots that is as faithful to its legacy as possible. It's a brilliant looking game, that runs beautifully. Has some repetitive combat considering its Brutal D00M influence. Feels like a modern FPS, with all the perks of retro FPS gaming.

8

DOOM 3

Replaying Doom 3 was quite the chore in itself, namely was originally the game that stopped me being a P.C. gamer. Was a clear sign graphics became more important than gameplay, and in the gameplay department Doom 3 was dredfully weak. Replaying Ultimate Doom & Doom II however was great and runs well on console, which unlike the PS1 version which is a grand welcome. Ultimate Doom remains a must play shooter. Clever raw intensity, fluidly playable , and great map designs... Unlike Doom 3.

--
7

DUSK

A single player FPS that simply knows what people want from the genre, meaty gunplay, great open ended level design, and a steep difficulty curve. Only held down to its retro look, which while charming many will judge in a negative manner.

--
8

Dark Souls II

A worth while Dungeon Crawler, but not quite as 'deep' as many would have you believe. Grab a coat of Havel armor and both PVE & PVP are easily within your bounds. It's a big game, and well enjoyed in its own right.

8

Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III is without a doubt the finest game FROM has developed, previously the games had issues I couldn't overlook, Bloodborne was close but lacked a special touch. & with DIII it just seems more polished, full of content, and well designed. It's a fantastic Action RPG!

9

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

A great game, even though the A.I. takes a huge stab in the eyes, blindness is common. No serious depth in playing a stealth build when the grunts are this stupid. Not to mention you can't stealth in boss encounters, making it almost pointless.

--
7

Devil May Cry 3

What a masterpiece! Fast, tight, hard, and impactful. Other than some unimpressive platforming and blob boss I see no reason to not give this game a go. The HD collection makes getting this game more available than ever.

--
9.5

Devil May Cry 5

DMC5 is an excellent game with Itsuno san teams expertise in top-tier combat mechanics. Level design, pacing, and a few other issues prevent this being a perfect return to form. But still worth playing if a fan of the main series.

8

Devil May Cry HD Collection

Playing DMC1 shows it hasn't aged well. Feels stiff next to DMC3/ 4 to the point I couldn't bring myself to have more than two playthroughs. Read info on DMC3 above if you wanna know my thoughts on that game. & I didn't play 2 HD. The original wasn't a good game so I can't imagine it suddenly got better with 60FPS and higher resolution objects. The HD upgrade isn't noticeable visually, but runs at 60 FPS, so overall an improvement.

-- --

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness

Better than Disgaea 3? Not really, more simple for the bunch that found 3 demanding. The story also falls flat despite returning favourites given the spotlight.

--
8

Dishonored

First Person Assassin game that gives the player relative freedom to do non kill runs. Mechanics are overall clunky and lack some expected polish, and this reflects to the weak A.I. as well. Level design is really good however and worth trying at the very least.

7

Disney DuckTales: Remastered

It came with retro glory, and plays great. Voice acting was well delivered, if just overstaying its welcome.

--
6.5

Divinity: Original Sin II

An interesting take on turn-base combat. Challenging and extremely content heavy. It's essentially a near perfect Dungeons and Dragons simulator. Perhaps the character creator could use more races, yet otherwise it's a fantastic RPG that anyone and everyone should give a chance!

10

Dragon Age: Origins

A well crafted story heavy Tactical RPG, my only real criticism for the game was odd combat animations and overall weight of the attacks. It's a solid game but you really need to dive deep to understand the context of the objective. Origins has a story to tell and it expects you to listen. Sometimes more than playing the game itself.

--
7

Dragon's Crown

Playing this is a childhood dream come true. A modern day Golden Axe, love it. The art is beautiful and combat is freakishly satisfying. The loot system is very addictive.

--
9

Dragon's Dogma

(Dark Arisen edition) It's tough to rate as it is both a heavily flawed game and a stab into a masterpiece. The open-world sections are hugely flawed. Best gameplay you'll find is found in Dark Arisen and the Ur Dragon without a doubt. Which are well designed linear areas. The combat and create options are some of the best I've seen in any game!

--
8

Dungeon Keeper 2 (Classic)

Dungeon Keeper 2 being my last true time I fully enjoyed PC gaming to a high level. Oh how it pains me to see the mobile version. Brings more variety than the original game but has a shocking lack of content.

--
9.5

Elite: Dangerous

Elite IV is the technical term. And what an addictive game. This is what blasting in space would feel like 'I imagine'. It's ever growing and beautiful. Plays just like Elite III with all the juice modern P.C.s deliver. If you like exploration, dig in my friend!

7

Fallout 4

Good combat in an otherwise old-hat Bethesda Studios game. It tries a few new things but doesn't do many of them very well.

7

Fire Pro Wrestling World

A great arcade experience, which more reinforced with it's extreme level of customisation. Can be intimidating for the latter but still a great game regardless that puts the mainline American wrestling games to shame.

--
8

God of War

Satisfying combat, good pacing, and clever level design; slightly held back by an odd camera choice that doesn't work well during fights and overall weak puzzles.

8

God of War Collection: Volume II

Ghost of Sparta is an awesome game, and consider it better than some of the main entries. This is a nice collection. Olympus won't take long, and I assume one would notice it's the weakest game in the franchise.

--
7

God of War III

GoW has never had combat mechanics this good. The game doesn't last as long as the second game. & a weak story does make sections cringy, but at least ties up loose ends.

8.5

Gothic

Gothic is in all purposes an RPG, however for the most case it comes across as a living simulator, so it's a difficult game to describe. It has platforming and combat, neither being very enjoyable. I would describe both as driftless and lacking a sense of accuracy. The other elements favor far better and the choices and options are on par with a decent Elder Scrolls game, however punishes you early on for testing your limitations.

--
6

Guacamelee!

What a great game! Couldn't get enough of the platforming and combat. A game that reminds you why gaming is good fun.

--
8

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus

It's not balanced like Street Fighter. Though just; if not, more complex. Being "DESTROYED" online by 9/10 Sol BadGuy is fine. . . Kinda. Because it's so fun to play and you gotta love that soundtrack. Lets not even say how beautiful it is because the developer puts many Anime studios to shame. Here's hoping Jam makes Xrd. I can't play GG without her :3

--
8

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd

With more songs, an actual competent console port, and improved challenge replicating its arcade counterparts. You're tough to find a better rhythm game than what my girl Miku is offering.

--
8

Haunting Ground

At its core Demento is puzzle focused, playing a bit like The Clock Tower and Resident Evil, with a far more mature tone. Interestingly, has a riffled time limit system, along with dog commands; leading to being chased by deadly NPCs. Creating a very unique experience. Doesn't have many flaws other than being a short game.

--
8

Heavenly Sword

Short but sweet, story is quite touching. Combat is a nice change from God of War and Devil May Cry. & finally, has two playable characters that play entirely different.

--
7.5

Hollow Knight

Good tribute to MetroidVania but does little to separate itself from the list of similar games, outside its charm and appealing artstyle. Combat is alright but nothing spectacular.

7

KKND: Krush Kill 'N Destroy

Had a more difficult learning curve than any strategy RTS game I played for its time. It's an overlooked Command & Conquer clone, that in many regards surpasses C&C in every way.

-- --

Katamari Damacy

Physics-based time challenge classic is simply one of the greatest games of all time. Has charm, replay-value, and a simple jump-in jump-out style of play. It's rough starting out, but quickly subsided due to its depth and quality.

--
8

Kirby Super Star Ultra

An easy adventure you might remember depending how old you are, modes get unlocked that add a mild challenge which is appreciated. The sprite work is some of the best on DS.

--
7

Kirby: Triple Deluxe

Easy-peasy Kirby game. The most refined in its series, and easily the most visually stunning & musically charming entry. It is a easy game though. Till you unlock EX levels and a post game mode.

--
7

Lemmings

Clunky interface for the console. However still a fun game, and the visual upgrade is a big welcome. Lack of mouse support is questionable, game doesn't fit with pad interface. Name is also a tad misleading, it bundles Lemming 2 as well.

--
7

LittleBigPlanet 2

I loved the original, & LBP 2 is the best building game on PS3! Story mode in itself is great alone or with friends. & the community, oh it's amazing. The replay value here is brilliant! I can't recommend this game enough, just give it a chance!

--
9

Luigi's Mansion 3

Streamlined version of Dark Moon without any of the needed improvements the series needed. Content heavy and smooth animations doesn't hide the ghostly repackaged 3DS game, made easier for a larger audience.

7

Lumines

Solid rhythm-beat puzzle game, a great alternative to Tetris.

8

Makai Senki Disgaea 3

Three core games down and Disgaea stays strong, has a great cast of characters. & though the story isn't as good as the first game, you'll find more gameplay content here than Elder Scrolls Oblivion.

--
8.5

Manhunt

Stealth didn't really make sense in this game with the shadow mechanic, however oddly a satiating gritty game. Unfortunately has some terrible shooting sections as well for filler, the game wasn't really built for it.

--
8

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Platinum)

The story is long, yet the moments of gameplay are some/ if not the most polished you'll find in a game. Metal Gear Solid 4 has a great pace of playable set-pieces that should make any gamer happy.

--
9.5

Metroid Prime

Metroid becoming a shooter. Get outta'here. . Common reaction for a game that was very faithful to its platformer past. It's more Duke Nukem 3D than Halo for the record. And that's why I'm fond of it.

--
8

Minna de Spelunker

Brilliant simple platformer, well overlooked. It's as difficult as eating a brick sandwich. Contains 100 levels and has coop modes to increase replayability. The touched-up visuals have a really good style that standout from other/ similar games.

--
8.5

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge

Not quite as clever or as funny as The Secret of Monkey Island, however with a larger budget the remade sprites look lush. It has a more surreal approach to humor, with an attempt at shock value and unethical puzzle. Enjoy the ride, it's an interesting one.

--
9

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

It's a very deep experience that captures everything the series did well at peak standard. Cliff leaps are a very welcome edition. Highly recommend if you want a challenging loot game on your portable. Has an ok StoryMode for a change, however multiplayer is the Palico ticket here

--
9

Monster Hunter Rise

Needs to iron out some of its flaws. It's not the best MH experience by any stretch, but has the potential to be if cleaned up. It's colorful and charming, just frankly too easy.

8

Mother Russia Bleeds

Beat em' Up that plays a lot like Streets of Rage with violence on the level of Splatterhouse. It plays great but overall pacing is a big issue. Better played with others. Really adds to the mayhem.

7

Mr. Driller: Drill Land

Port of the throwback Puzzle game that demands good awareness and reflexes. Containing a lot of what made the Namco classics so endearing, music and visuals are just as one would remember. Packed with content that will sport a lot of replay-value.

9

NieR: Automata

A hybrid game that tries to be a little of many things, Hack n' Slash/ RPG/ Retro Shooter/ Sandbox. And it only really succeeds at the prior, barely. Overall still a fun game that's to it's interesting narrative and smooth controls.

8

Ninja Gaiden Sigma

In the same league as Devil May Cry 3. Personally I like it more than NG Black on Xbox. Make sure you focus on keeping your guard up and enjoy the ride.

--
9

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

A simplistic slasher for portable. Controls oddly well with only a one button command and DS pen. Due to the handheld it is uncomfortable to play for long sessions, and could cause damage to your wrists. Luckily (or unlucky) The game can be beaten on a average of three hours; even with cut-scenes. So it should only be played in bursts anyway. .

--
6

Nioh

Tight/ complex combat that asks alot, but gives alot in return. Level design is lacking, however it also has many complex RPG stat calculations that makes this a joy to play. Fantastic game.

8

Owlboy

This game is short, but a treat for those willing to play a game that looks like it came from twenty years ago. Because it never feels like it in its gameplay. Owlboy is clever, witty, and responsive. If you enjoy Metroidvania games? This is an amazing one.

8

Pac-Man Championship Edition DX

I've played this so much it's becoming infectious. Very addictive and a return to Namcos mascot with class. Lining up the hordes of Ghosts before getting your power-up is rewarding as it is satisfying

--
9

Pokemon Sun / Moon

Pokémon Sun (and Moon) is without doubt the best game the Pokémon Company has put into the publics hands. Not only is it the best Pokémon game, it’s questionably one of the best RPG games in years!

9

Pokemon X / Y

Super training and online modes can make this a fun game even if you're not a Seasonal Pokemon fan.

--
7

Putty Squad

In a time was my favourite 2D platofomer. Enjoyable level design, precise controls and decent enough challenge. Gameplay is entertaining, if just easy once you know how to exploit our avatars finer abilities. All combine to create what remains a great game.

--
8

Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

Poorly designed ending aside. This part 3rd Person Shooter, part Platformer, is a joke reboot that has more in common with its PS3 instalments. And as a result has a decent flow of gameplay mechanics and storytelling. It's a good introduction into a long running series. Never taking itself too seriously.

7

Resident Evil

REmake is perhaps the best paced, and most horrifying game in the series. Sadly not many of you bought it, so blame yourselves for why the series took an action root. The replay value is unique for the series, as after so long makes you fear the halls from a new threat; with familiar skin. .

--
9

Resident Evil 2

While the original Resident Evil Remake felt like the definitive version of the 1996 classic. Resident Evil 2 Remake feels like a greatest hits from throughout the entire franchise while also being a fantastic Survival Horror experience.

9

Resident Evil 3

Boss battles in RE3Remake are overall superior to its RE2Remake counterpart, however recycled environments/ monsters, lacking modes, plus Jill overall swears too much, knocks the game down from joining the best Resident Evil franchise has to offer.

8

Resident Evil 4

Resi 4 is amongst my favourite games ever. It's an extremely well made game that is more open to new gamers than previous Resident Evil instalments.

9.5

Resident Evil 5 (Collector's Edition)

Even though Resi5 is G.I. Joe than Horror, it remains a solid game. It's like Resident Evil 4 with more focus on action,.coop was a clever move for this game in the franchise.

--
7

Resident Evil 7: biohazard

A game that reminisces in classic ideals, but not the know of what made a great game in the series. The change of perspective hinders the gameplay; as first person has never worked in tight corridors. However, outside of that issue, you can find much to enjoy in this sequel.

7

Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Revelations 2 plays very much like the 3DS original, with a more unique take on coop. Is advised to play it with a friend to improve the experience, as the friendly A.I. is pretty frustrating. Along with some control issues and camera aside, it's a good game.

--
7

Robocod: James Pond II

Classic platforming, it's fun if just a tad creepy. & honestly not the slickest controls next to Atari vesion. But chances you getting the Atari outside emulators? Is slim-to-none. PlayStation port isn't the best version, but the easiest to access regardless.

--
7.5

SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection

Sega did good here. My only nitpick is the lack of Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle) III Japanese version. It brought together plenty of classics that are a lot of fun, but on a personal note not all of them are worth playing. Didn't understand the appeal for Altered Beast and the Ecco games.

--
8.5

SIFU

Sifu is a fun, rewarding and challenging game that unfortunately suffers from being a short experience. Only has longevity for purists who want a flawless run. More stages would have helped and more enemy variety. The bosses are the highlight.

7

Shadow of the Beast

Shadow of the Beast is a strange one, because I like many of the aspects it delivered. The actual gameplay though is a mess, resulting in some of the worst stiff controls I've used in a game, the actual combat heavily relies of QTEs as well. It's not a bad game, just very average.

6

Signalis

Signalis looks like a game that released on the Nintendo DS in 2004. Set aside your feeling/ or embrace its presentation and you'll find it a rich Survival Horror. Has a lot to offer from the story, puzzles, and enemy encounters. It's a gem/ love-letter to fans of the genre.

8

Silent Hill 3

The HD collection didn't really do this game justice, the PS2 original is still a must for Survival horror fans. The pacing is pitch perfect and has some great scares.

--
8

Silent Hill HD Collection

Best of Hill? Probably, but with the lack of The Room it feels in-compete as a collection. Plus has framerate issues so clearly not better than the PS2 versions.

--
6

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I

Movement isn't the same in this 2D adventure, doesn't seem quite as enjoyable as Sonic 1 or Sonic & Knuckles. It's different though, but mostly attempts to relive its glory days while changing its basic mechanics. Short lived, but fun nonetheless.

--
7.5

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

The team-up gimmick is mandatory and wears thin quickly, which brought down the whole experience. Otherwise improved Episode one in every way... Except it didn't. That Tails A.I. is a nightmare. . Though level design and movement control is more responsive.

--
6.5

SoulCalibur VI

Soul Calibur has never been this good a fighting game, and while it's missing some features from previous entries and downgraded backgrounds. As a Fighting game is very competitive and a joy to play.

8

Speedball 2 Evolution

Lack of multiplayer is shocking. A wasted opportunity for an otherwise fun game that is 'built' for multiplayer.

--
8

Splatoon 2

More content that the original, with better weapon balance and stable framerate. While modes like Salmon Run are locked in weird ways, and chat is locked to mobile for whatever reason, Splatoon 2 is a great package and easily Switches top multiplayer Shooter.

9

SteamWorld Dig

Short game with massive fun, would highly recommend this tightly slick digging adventure to any gamer. You literally form your own platformer and progress in what you previously built. A genius idea.

--
8

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike - Fight for the Future

Moving on with newer warriors was one of the best things Street Fighter ever did. The fluidity of the sprites, and the extreme parry system makes for some great fighting. It's difficult to consider a 2D fighter in Third Strikes league.

--
9

Streets of Rage 4

One of the greatest Beat em' Ups ever made. I do not need to say much more, if you like this genre you should already have played or be playing the game, better with a few friends naturally. And the Mr X Nightmare will bring you back for many more hours.

9

Strider

Flaws consist of oddly balanced upgrades and strange enemy patterns. Still a decent exploring platformer game that's heavily focused on slaying waves of robots. Not a true Strider sequel, yet I'd still recommend you give it a try.

--
7

Super Castlevania IV

Like Super Mario World, it's easy in comparison with its number 3 papa. Super is in the name for a reason, beautiful well-thought-out design. And just overall a fantastic platformer. Grab your Cross and upgraded whip, because it doesn't get much better.

--
8

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

Not only did this bring Wario 'fantasic last boss' it rivals its console brothers. Easily the most addictive Mario on hand-held.

--
7

Super Mario Odyssey

A nice take on everyone's favorite Plumber, but something seems lost in this jump that is difficult to pin-point. Perhaps it's how a lot of the game has questionable design unless you seek out challenges.

8
