Would you be just cooling the CPu or also the GTX 280? either way it will add a minimum of $250-$400 To your build.cheetfreak

Probably both. I'm not really so much worried about price (because, like I said, I've been saving for about 5 years). I'm concerned more about how troublesome it would be to install liquid cooling, and how long the system would last if I did.

I'm about to build myself a new PC, like most people here. I've been saving up forever, and plan to deck it out completely with a QX9770 3.2 GHz, GTX 280 and 4 GB DDR3 memory, and also intend to overclock it. So, the setup will be pretty powerful... but also pretty hot. I air condition my room into arctic tundra to sustain my current 5 year old desktop that's overclocked to hell so it can keep up with the times, but I don't know if thats enough. Thus, I'm considering using liquid cooling... but I've heard from a lot of people that it isn't neccessary, and that I should just get high end fans. In the case of this PC, would it would be a good investment? Or should I just use good fans and hope for the best?

I plan on keeping this thing for a long time as well. So I'd like whoevers reading this to also consider which form of cooling lasts longer, not just what's colder. I'm not very familiar with the longevity of liquid cooling systems, and if someone could enlighten me, that'd be great.

I'm lookin' to buy a new desktop for gaming, and the Mac Pro had my eye because of its insane 8 Core processor and 16GB of RAM...but the video card selection straight up sucks. I was wondering if it was possible to install something newer/better on it after I buy it, like a 9800GX2 or ATI 3870. Either one would pretty much make it one of the fastest gaming computers around... my main worry, though, is that Apple might have some sort of BIOS lock or other barrier to prevent one from changing the parts to anything other than their standard. I wanted to ask here if that was an issue because, knowing Apple, it's pretty likely :?

(And yes, I'm going to use BootCamp. I'm not that dumb)

Price isn't really an issue...I've been saving up forever to get a new desktop, since my old Pentium D gave up on life the day Core 2 Duo was announced. And I know people are going to say "omg just upgrade it!" well that would require a whole new motherboard, equating to so much extra work and money that I might be better off just getting a new computer. So my main questions are: can the Mac Pro be upgraded? And if it can't, what are some other alternatives that would be pretty close in performance?

I'm having the EXACT same problem. Just bought a new copy of Lost Planet, installed it and all, but the activation code printed on the back isn't the same format as Valve's website claims it should be. Here, I'll explain better:

Valve's claimed format for LP Keys:

1AB2C-D3FGH-456I7-JK8LM-NOP9Q

My CD Key:

XXXXX-XXXXX-4CA86-43 DE

(By the way that is EXACTLY what is printed there, save for the Xs. I will scan it if nobody believes me)

Steam won't accept mine. I payed money for this game...I feel like I've been robbed. Can someone help me out?

I've been having some issues with my iPhone lately, specifically the WiFi music store. For reasons to complicated and unnecesary to explain, I cannot get access the computer my iPhone is synced with. But, I am in a WiFi network, so I've decided to get music from the iTunes app on the iPhone. Or atleast I wanted to, but it isn't working.

Whenever I try to download something, I put in my password and stuff, just like always. Then the download starts, and I get a popup saying "this item cannot be purchased". This happens no matter what wifi hotspot I'm in and for every song I try to download, and I have no idea why. My password is right, but that doesn't matter because it actually starts the download (meaning my password isn't wrong). Apple's support section and customer services were no less hopeless than they've ever been, so I gave up on them. Even Google can't find someone else having this problem, which is starting to scare me a little. Does anyone on this board have a clue?

The iPod Touch does not have a camera. However, I'm pretty certain it can hold pictures stored on your computer.

There is only one overtly blunt answer to that question. You can't.

The iPhone's hard drive is completely sealed and locked as if it were a bank vault. Apple did this to prevent software modification and freeware, as it seems to be their greatest fear (probably because "no viruses" is their biggest selling point). Its driving me up the wall as well. The best thing I have been able to come up with is completely erasing it's hard drive and then re-syncing all but the thing you wanted to take off. It's rather tedious, but it gets the job done.

The nearly godlike Optoma HD81 is 1080p native, but most people don't think it justifies a $5000 price tag. Almost all good projectors out there that are 1080p native will run for ridiculous prices, mainly due to the sophisticated technology it takes to blow up 1080p to 90+ inches and keep the quality looking good. If you're willing to dish out that kind of money, you won't be dissapointed :)

Hey all. I have recently encountered some problems pertaining to the usage of my TV, so I was wondering if I could use my computer monitor as a replacement. I intend mainly to play my Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii with component cables...I have an adapter that changes component video to a VGA monitor port, but something goes wrong when I try to use it with a computer monitor. The image that appears is almost completely green. I did some research and found out that game consoles send an image in YCbCr format, as opposed to a computer's standard RGBHV signal.

Is there some way I can modify my computer monitor to process YCbCr format without any sort of external adapter? Perhaps by software modification, drivers or maybe just a program that changes it? I would much rather not purchase an adapter (as it's all I can find while researching this), seeing how this would just be temporary. I know it sounds a bit naive, but is there some way I can change my monitor to work for this type of signal? Or is it part of the hardware, and thus unchangeable?

If it helps, I'm using a MAG Innovision 900W monitor. Help would be greatly appreciated :)

I have been using a projector for video gaming and television, and my lamp is hardly more than halfway empty after two years of using it. They are quite expensive to replace, but make no mistake, they last for quite a long time.

I use an Optoma DX625. It works great, and even comes with an adapter for component HD cables for your next-gen game consoles. Sadly no HDMI port, but adapters can be purchased that use the DVI plug for HDMI. They retail for about $850; I bought mine at Costco :P

If you absolutely NEED hdmi, Optoma makes a different version of the 625 that replaces the DVI with an HDMI (I believe it's called the ED625, but I may be wrong); you order it off their site, and it costs roughly the same. Either way, I would definately recomend this projector if you are looking for an affordable yet efficient home theater setup.
