Can we really blame Major Nelson for being upset that they haven't shown the PS4, yet? After the tragedy that was the first generation 360 (and while we're at it LOL for launching an HD system with no HDMI out), Microsoft could definitely use whatever pointers they can get on designing a console.
Well, it's comforting to know they are completely wrecking the old client (server and client side) and using a new game engine. It's not like the graphics were ever the problem with this game. I want to say that XIV 1.0 failing was good for SE. The fans finally pushed back at their cavalier attitude towards its fanbase. Let's hope it results in a great game!
Not surprising. If you look into the Sony, Toshiba and IBM (coined "STI") deal leading to Cell then you can see they had a very long research cycle leading to the development of the PS3. I'm rather surprised it took them four to five years to start the ball rolling on PS4, in fact.
How the hell are people who are fans of a game that allows you to have a crap ton of companions, summoning Atronachs, pets and whatnot betting against taking the series to MMO? I'm not invested one way or the other, but people immediately calling this a disaster really need to go back and play the previous games and pull their heads out of their butt.
Treyarch are raising the stakes. I think at a point where just about everyone can agree the formula was getting stale, they make some pretty profound changes. I'll admit that I was kind of getting tired of the Maddenism of these games. Color me genuinely excited for this, though! Sure, people will complain about the UAVs and whatever nonsense they can, but those arguments come from a vacuum of ignorance. These types of technologies are alive and well on the battlefield of today.
There are as many ways to interpret God and it's place in life as there are people on this planet. Gathering a team of likeminded developers and then getting a likeminded publisher on-board is going to be next to impossible. This is why most morality plays in games are about as deep as a jacuzzi. The irony is that so many belief systems converge on similar morals.
I think religions, in general, are struggling to remain relevant in the lives of modern man. Many conventions that were necessary for survival up to even less than a hundred years ago are now moot. Relationships and their gravity towards survival have made way to technology and the potential for personal growth. Mores about food (pork is teh devil) go the way of antiquated as refrigerators are common and food does not spoil the way it used to. Everything except AIDS (and even that) has a pill or a shot that can make sexually transmitted diseases go away and there is plenty of scientific research that shows physiological as well as mental benefits to a human being for having a healthy sex life. Is it any wonder that religion is also struggling to effectively communicate through the ultra modern medium of the videogame?
