@brightsunbeam: Well see I wasn't accusing you of being a misogynist. In fact I still am not accusing you of being a misogynist, but this most recent reply of yours sure does sound a lot closer to the misogynist rhetoric I was referring to.

Anyways, I'm not gonna stop gaming. I love video games. I just can't help but express my dismay at the widespread intolerance within the community.

@brightsunbeam: Screw implications. I'm very explicitly saying that the online gaming community is sexist. It's also racist and homophobic. Nothing I've seen in the past years on gaming sites has indicated the contrary, save the rare gems that will also try to call out people's intolerance, but they're a minority.

The thing is games are fun. There's no reason to think women, people of other races or gay people wouldn't enjoy playing them, and there's no reason to think these people would not enjoy seeing themselves represented by heroes and heroines (or hell even villains). The only way one can get the notion that only straight white doods play games is because they're the (insanely) vocal majority on dedicated gaming sites like this one. And this vocal majority usually spouts some lousy shit which is sexist. And everybody on that site agrees with one another. And this reinforces their belief that they're the one and only gaming demographic. And this makes them spout more of the same shit. And so it's perfectly understandable that, say, a woman gamer would want to avoid these places like the black plague.

So no, I wasn't accusing you of being a misogynist. I was saying that misogyny in gaming communities is the reason why it looks like there's no gamer women, but there definitely are.

@brightsunbeam: Maybe you never find many female gamers because female gamers have the sense to steer clear from toxic gaming communities with misogynistic narratives.

Women like books, movies, TV shows, music, theatre... where do people get this notion that suddenly video games is the one form of media women will reject?

@bookfan8780: world? mostly the USA, I'd say. I can't speak for every country in the world but I know this "sue culture" isn't as rampant everywhere as it is in the USA.

@MaxBlaze: I'd agree with you, but from what information we've been given it wasn't just one time, rather the supervisor constantly called her "it" with ill intent.
