@NathanDrakeSwag: SO was more challenging to me. I can see why people say Spider-Man is better. It has the narrative, characters, and good gameplay. But I didn’t find much challenge to it to be honest. I still enjoyed it.

Hopefully they will just focus on Spiderman 2 for now. Sunset Overdrive was shyt anyway.. who the heck wants Sunset Overdrive 2?

I've also heard about SO1 being owned by MS. Basically if that is true then even though Sony owns the IP, the first game in the series is still in technicality a MS game and Sony would need to work out a deal with them to release it on their platform (which, let's be honest, could totally happen with Spencer).

This would be similar to Bayonetta; IP is owned by SEGA but 2 & 3 are Nintendo games and only Nintendo has a say as to which platform they appear on because they basically funded the whole thing.

This means Insomniac Games still has full control over what to do with Sunset Overdrive and any future iterations and downloadable content.

This (5 year old) story is simply saying that Insomniac had full control over making the game and what they wanted to do with it. And since MS let them own the IP they could do whatever with future titles. Microsoft has publishing rights over the first title, we don't know if it's temporary or permanent.

To both @lebanese_boy and @r-gamer: Fair points on Sony's treatment of Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, GG etc. However, I remain skeptical about mergers and acquisitions these days; where these studios were acquired years ago.

Your Bayo example? Nintendo paid for the development, MS didn't. They just published it, or more corectly - distribute it.

Same reason Sone holds the rights to SF5 - they paid the devs to make it.

MS didn't pay Insomniac to make it, but to release it, since Sony didn't want to pay for it without keeping the IP.

MS only has the rights to the Bone version, nothing else. Maybe Steam version but i don't know how PC deals work.

Dude what the hell are you talking about? What do you think publishing means? Among other things it means the publisher funds the project and gives access to ressources.

Also, paid to release and not make? Insomniac needed a publisher in order to actually start making the game and nobody accepted their pitch other than MS.

Insomniac was pretty much a Sony developer already. Lol, why are people making a big deal about this?

Not sure how this could be even remotely interesting as they almost already only worked on Sony games. It was a very smart move by Sony just not particularly surprising/interesting. Now if they bought Square Enix or Capcom that would be something.

I am in the camp of good for Sony, not so good for gamers in general, and it doesn't really change the landscape since they have basically been a Sony shop for a long time.

I am not so thrilled for gamers in general since I believe that exclusives are the bane of gaming.
