@MonsieurX: Why? It's next gen for Nintendo but not anyone else.
Gens are not determined by power.
I can't believe that's still even debated on this forum. JFC
Why? You have the guy above saying when the NX comes out it's the "end of gen 8" with PS4 the winner on that date. That doesn’t' seem completely preposterous to you given the current state of Nintendo's console business? Nintendo's current system is literally not even relevant to gen 8, so how the hell do they determine when gen 8 ends LOL?
It seems to me that Nintendo has taken itself out of the traditional video game generation iterations - and considering we don’t' know anything about the NX yet, we have no idea just how far out of it they are (or if they will try to get back in it by making the NX a proper gen 8 or even gen 9 console).
When the NX comes out, it'll be a next-gen console. That doesn't mean this particular generation will have ended (older gen consoles rarely ever immediately stop getting new releases just because new hardware has been releases), but, for Nintendo, the next generation will have begun, and they will be the only ones in the generation, regardless of how powerful the console is (which, if they have learned anything from the Wii-U disaster, it will be more powerful than the PS4 and One) until they get competition. The DreamCast, for example, started its generation, even though it was discontinued due to multiple factors. When the PS5 and whatever the hell Microsoft calls their next console come out, they'll too be in the next generation.
Like Fox Hound said, generations are not determined by power.
