Well thats where you and I disagree..... obviously...... but thats not the problem. The problem is identifying such a scenario where Stats are superior to a mechanical alternative...... its basicly the only reason I keep arguing with you. Because I'm still looking for that one scenario.

Anyway I know Stats are a mechanic..... its just a lazy and rubish one. Ofcourse you can use stats to change how people play the game..... developers do it all the time.... its the easiest way to "Fake" assymetry and progression..... just take alot the the enemies in Dark Souls....... your stats affect how you approach them..... got lots of health and a big ? Then **** Caution.... hack and slash as you please... why learn to dodge. Or..... Got a shitty weapon and low health ? Now you gotta be carefull for fear of being one shotted. Its lazy and unimaginative..... perhaps you see something I don't.

"They're just not what you approve of because it constitutes a different play style you just can't grasp for some reason."

What play style ?

Yes.... more redundant choices...... broken or not atleast Splinter Cell and Bioshock grant you genuinely diverse setups based on mechanics....... not stats. I believe one is better than the other..... don't you ?

I love RPGs.... I hate Stats.

You love them if I recall correctly. I don't know why though. But atleast you are one of the.... actually you literally the only one who doesn't beat around the bush about liking them. It keeps things simple.

I don't care for the RPG Elements in those games (you know exactly what I think of them).

I listed those two because surprize surprize they let me tackle a situation however I want without resorting to stats......

Funny how that works....... some non-RPGs are better at being RPGs than traditional RPGs..... depending on how you define what an RPG is obviously.

@Byshop:

"With many games that have skills and stats there's always the possibility of building a poor character build, but trying to figure out the best way to build your character is half the fun."

You should try Transistor.... if you can put up with or ignore The Plot then it'l be worth it because You can not only build a character in numerous meaningfull ways (all for the sake of combat) but in my play through I was surprised to find out that no matter how I mixed and shuffled my skills they were all usefull..... and interesting (some more than others)....... there probably is a useless build but I never encountered one...... sure many are suboptimal but they were all Viable. I don't think I've encountered a game that encouraged this level of experimentation with such effeciency while still maintaining its difficulty.

You know whats more fun than trial and error experimenting......Having free reign to experiement however you want and never finding something useless.

And because of this game's existance I shall no longer give any RPG a free pass for an overabundance of useless builds. Untill a better game comes along Transistor is now the Gold Standard of Experimentation. :P

@Byshop:

Yeah I'm pretty sure you could explore in Morrowind...... the game just drops you off in a village and you're on your own from there.

I don't remember much of fallout.... never finnished it.

And yes Stats are not my cup of Tea..... but my argument against them is perfectly sound..... as is Banketra's if you happened to read his post.

I didn't come here to debate preferences..... but if you think you can argue against what I said by merely writing it off as "you didn't like it" then do what you gotta do. Its unnecessary but I suppose some people need to justfiy their ignoring me.
