@pc_rocks:

This reminds me of the old days when the MS fanboys swore up and down the PS4 would be weaker than the Xbone “because Sony can’t afford it!!!”

Good times.

Nice! This has to be tied with BotW as easiest AAA call of the gen. Sooooo glad launch is almost here... and to see @Charizard1605 finally getting to deal out the ownage.

The Hype is Real!

Seems like another example of Nintendo failing to meet the standards of the industry once again. Things like monthly game demos vs games to keep as long as subscribed, or paying for online chat... that requires a smartphone (?!?) are just the latest signs Nintendo doesn't get it.

Nah. I'm done with physical discs for movies at this point. Of course, I also don't have a 4K set, nor plans to buy one in the foreseeable future. And the only way I'd get a Pro is if my existing PS4 died. Even then probably not.

I think Nintendo has another tough sell on their hands. Who exactly is clamoring for a more "social" handheld? I mean, besides hipsters playing basketball under the highway or during your next impromptu rooftop party of course...

Fact is the dedicated handheld market cratered last gen, with the 3DS unable to get anywhere close to the sales of Any of the previous handheld lines, and we don't even know where the bottom is for that market anymore. So why would they think portability would make a good gimmick? People already carry expensive high definition devices around with games on them. No, they don't have Nintendo games on them... yet, but aside from Nintendo's dwindling faithful people have shown a willingness to make that sacrifice. And this just jacked the price up on a portable Nintendo experience considerably. It gets even harder to buy little billy a Nintendo handheld over a tablet when the system costs as much as the iPad mini he also wanted and the games will cost you a whole lot more.

And at home? You're left with yet another grossly underpowered home console that has little hope of getting current gen ports at a sufficient enough level to allow this to become the primary platform for most gamers. And no, the couple third party titles featured in the clip do not argue against that. People seem to forget the WiiU had a few high profile ports of its own near launch, but it was too weak to handle current gen games and was promptly abandoned. A port of a five year old game doesn't change that. Nor does a basketball series that gets ported to every system on earth including mobile.

There are some positives out of this: Pokémon on your TV? Skyrim on the Bus? Both are cool moments that this hardware will likely provide. But are there going to be enough of those moments for the average gamer to justify the price? I dunno man. It's a tough sell.

You mean hardware sales slowed during the time of year that hardware sales slow down to a trickle? I'll alert the press...

It's like people have to learn this about late Summer/early Fall Every. Single. Year.

@Kruiz_Bathory: FYI Harmonix Music VR launched with the system. $14.99. First title I bought and i love it! Easel is worth the price by itself.

@ArchoNils2: I've played Job Simulator (demo), and I thought it played excellently. I was impressed enough it convinced me to purchase when I was leaning towards skipping it. And Batman performs practically flawlessly for me. My biggest issue was probably down to setup - I had difficulty grabbing tools from my belt. I generally had to reach lower than I "wanted" to.

When it comes to tracking - especially with the move controllers - results are varying wildly from one setup to another. Distance to the camera, camera height, background color/lighting, light levels in the play area, and more combine to determine just how well the tracking works, though in my experience the head tracking of the unit itself is far more consistent and generally excellent. The finicky-ness is obviously a result of sticking with visible light based tracking. It works, and can work really well. But the margin for setup error is a lot smaller than with other solutions.

I've spent the last several evenings playing with PSVR since launch and only last night did I feel like I had a great handle on the best setups for standing and seated experiences. First night I had pronounced controller jitter and a tendency to lose tracking completely with arms extended, Now? Controller jitter seems almost completely resolved in most titles (was still experiencing jitters with moves AND Ds4 on the demo disc, because reasons I guess), to the point where I no longer consider it a gameplay distraction at all. Headset performance is now - to my ability to detect - perfect, and in full 360°.

The lingering issues I still run into are controllers slowly "drifting" a couple of inches forward and back, as if the system can't tell precisely how far away the controllers (happens with ds4 and moves) are and tries to solve that by covering all bases. It doesn't seem to happen in all titles (for example, i couldn't reproduce it in Batman or Harmonix Music VR), but it happens in enough of them that I feel it's a systemic issue. I've also had to recenter my headset on occasion, which seems like it should t happen with outside-in positional tracking. It's simple enough to correct, but still annoys me. Fortunately, both issues should be addressable via firmware updates and Sony is already identifying bugs and performance issues for their next patch, so I believe both will end up beIng temporary annoyances.

Heh, that's a wall of text, and I'm not trying to dismiss any different issues you're having. Between learning to set up for my space effectively and reading the PSVR sub on Reddit, I've had or heard of your exact issues before. Just giving my own impressions after a bunch of fiddling.
