SW hat off.....Probably because it was a smaller game. But it did have a lot of other category nominations, so there is that for them. I would say that Starfield deserved it, as did Lies of P (though it only had a 82 average). And even though it's a sequel, I personally would have voted for Final Fantasy XVI over Spider-Man 2 and RE4 and Starfield. FFXVI, Alan Wake 2 and Hi-Fi Rush are my top three games this year.

That is what I found confusing, 5 noms but it doesn't get one for GOTY, seems off.
Genuine question: why is Cyberpunk 2077 in the "ongoing" category?
The other games listed are live-service games, Cyberpunk is a finite singleplayer title. Is it because it got an expansion?
Because of the 2.0 rework which completely changes the game and the xpac.

Fair enough, it just seems kind of odd is all. Definitions vary, I guess.
I just don't know how you can put a game like Cyberpunk in the same category as an MMO like FFXIV and live-service games like Fortnite.
Yes, it got an expansion and a big update, but it's not really "ongoing". It was just added to. If Half-Life 2 got Episode 3 in 2023, would that have been an "ongoing" candidate? I think No Man's Sky would be on there as well, given how much better it is now and the huge update it got this year.
*Oh and nothing against Cyberpunk; the 2.0 update practically made it a new game, and the expansion is arguably better than the base game. Hands-down one of the best games of 2023 imo.
I think it's funny that two years in a row, The Game Awards lists a cutoff date for submissions and announces the nominees a week prior to that cutoff date.
By coincidence, Pentiment shipped last year on November 15th lol.
@dabear: Beyond pathetic to celebrate a pity award like that. Plus, its the xbox award, the platform with the least quality games. All that matters really is the one and true GOTY... Which is BG3. You're celebrating a very limited trophy.
Other relevant trophies are best studio.. best graphics.. best story... best performance and they all went to BG3 lol. Pure domination.
And by the way,
these are the games that Starfield had to compete with:
You're literally celebrating that Starfield beat Chants of Sennaar (never heard of it), Hi-Fi Rush, Planet of Lana (never heard of it), Dead Space remake and Pentiment (never heard of it)
If Starfield had to compete with any of the games nominated for PC or PS it would have lost to every single one. Including RE4, FF16, BG3, SF6, AC6, etc.

If I was a lemming, I would be super embarrassed that Starfield wasn’t even considered as. GOTY contender. Especially after hyping it as the second coming of Christ for the last 7 years . 🥺
And there's other Games that came out this year that aren't nominated that STILL would be put in over Starfield

This was really a fantastic year in gaming. Like holy crap this has been un-real. So many great single player, non live service games is refreshing to see.
At the very least, Starfield was nominated for Most Loading Screens of the Year😏
I'm just a simple Hermit, Starfield wasn't snubbed, it just doesn't deserve GOTY and for a damn good reason. Anyone wants to know why, just go read my final post in the hype thread for more details. Hearing DaBear saying its the most important game of the year is laughable at that. I gave it a 6/10 and its sure as hell isn't my Skyrim game I was hoping it would be.
But anyway, how the hell Hogwarts Legacy didn't get a single nomination? I understand this year was jammin pack with quality good games, but Hogwarts Legacy isn't one of them? But how?

I love how every single game in the "Best E-Sports" category is either PC Exclusive or primarily played competitively on PC. As if it was any question.
No other system even comes a galaxy near PC in this category.
The salt in that thread title lol, but look we all know Baldur's Gate is gonna win. I also don't see why people are surprised by Starfield not being nominated. Where you not paying attention to how crazy 2023 has been?

But those are a solid line up. The only one that doesn't belong is Spider-Man 2, but the rest are perfect. Hi-Fi Rush should have been there for sure.
