Atomic Heart score prediction

GS dropped a 6/10 review which I have to assume was agenda driven concerning the drama surrounding this game.

Unfortunately, GS showed its true colors with Hogwarts so their reviews are no longer valid to me, regardless of game, platform, hype, etc. Too many other reviewers out there to take GS at their word.

Haven't read the review for their reasoning though. Their quick blurb at the bottom seems eh. Doubt I share in this reviewers criteria.

Seems like they're starting to actually use the full scale, which would be a good thing. But a tough sell after years of gamers being conditioned for a top heavy scale. Where anything below 7 is unplayable, and below 9, probably not worth it lol.

5-6 should be the range for roughly average, with the rest being obvious from there.

@ConanTheStoner: Yeah, IGN stated they dont like to give bad scores cause its bad for business and gamers are too harsh on games that score under 8/10. Gamespot seems to not care about the money. If they dont like your game, theyre like F yo couch. Its rare to see a site so bold and brave.

Have to say it, i cannot stand the protagonist voice. Reminds me of CP2077, another game that both, male and female main character voices made my ears bleed. They have this something that is just triggering me. Don't know how to explain it.

@hardwenzen: from what I have seen the dialog feels like a dry read of the script, I might consider just playing it in its original audio with subtitles if having English audio localization is going to ruin it

It does sound like that, and the scrip itself is also bad. But his voice, tho. I just don't want to hear it.

From what I have seen in streams so far this game doesn't look so good. The almost 30 minute long exposition dump at the beginning feels so useless when every one and their mom knows this is a system/bioshock type of game. Also they need to stop the current trend of voicing the main character, it just ends up being annoying. Also the writing in this game is weird as f, and also the more I watch the more annoying it becomes. It feels like The Outer Worlds were the gimmick thematic feels good at first but it goes nowhere and they spam it over and over again.

@Chutebox: It likely got a low score cause the devs are Russian and GS reviewers have an agenda and knew from the onset they’d give it a bad review.

Masterpiece

Well, it looks like a mediocre game at best to many.

I've seen some reviews and people playing it, and there doesn't seem to be anything particularly innovative about the gameplay, level design, puzzles, etc. except for the unique sci-fi Soviet setting.

Unfortunate for people who expected it to be a spiritual successor to BioShock. Reminds me of Callisto, which people also expected to be a spiritual successor to Dead Space, but failed.

Getting average scores. I have it on my Steam wishlist. Will pick it up on a sale

Yeah I might go with the Russian version. The English one is pretty awful.

I was reading this review by gamespot. This guy clearly hates the main character. But his complaints got me thinking. Serious Sam, Duke Nukem..

Those main characters are loved. They show little to no character development. They have cheesey one liners. They tend to be arrogant.

But they are good video game characters. I don't think characters in video games need to be graded like watching actors in movies.

I'd rather have simple badass character to play than deeply emotional character in video games.

Disregard most of the shit they say now. Entitled to their viewpoint, their take, that's fine. Doesn't mean gonna agree with it.

Duke Nukem will never return. And if he does his character will be heavily altered.

The character itself just doesn't work these days anyways. And by that I don't mean "offensive", he's a tribute to 80/90s action heroes. A walking pun machine. You need to be 30+ and have grown up during those times to enjoy it.

Many game journos and Xbox gamers are toddlers who only recently started growing facial hair. They won't get it.

Duke Nukem: Forever itself messed the character up, acted like he was awesome awesome, when really he's actually just an asshole in Duke3D. A parody character.

That and it drove his name into the ground, nobody gonna be interested in a new game now.

Metroid Prime isn't truly a FPS. It's more of an adventure puzzle game with a first person perspective. The shooting isn't its strong point.

After playing for a while, the game is pretty good.

The on-rails sections are awful tho, as well as the "cinematics", things that ghosts hate but this game vehemently has. The main dude and overall dialogue is painfully bad.

Gameplay definitely carries the game, and it's somewhat decent. Pro tip: Play on the hardest difficulty.

The exposition is heavy handed in the beginning and the dialogue with your glove and the protagonist is very Frospokenish. I am surprised the cringe in the dialogue have not been mentioned.😂

The art team did a great job.

Steam reviews are very positive.

Flop??? yeah people expecting another callisto protocool. no eastern european game has gotten 9s and 10s from critics.

Could I skip the cutscenes and still get the general gist of things, or are they an absolute necessity?

yes I have seen scripted events. but it follow by semi open and exploration instead of hand holding.

Oh, there's shitton of handholding from the skills you use. Heck, this game doesn't even feel like an immersive sim after about 6 hours.

Yeah a character like Duke Nukem works because he is bringing freedom to the world and is a spoof on action heroes.

A current day Duke Nukem would carry the uhm... virtues of a super hero comic book hero and as much imagination as I have, I don't really see that working as well in video game form.

RIP Duke Nukem.

I was reading all his negative points of the review and literally all of them are about story, actors and characters... To me that say a lot. Both about what video games have become and what reviewing video games has become.

What's really surprising is that the game is very well optimized and polished. This is something i certainly wasn't expecting.

Game was smooth 99% of the time for me. 4k* 60+FPS is certainly doable at max settings on my 3080 TI. (DLSS quality)

But there's no RT in the game yet, right?

Weird. I thought this game would be a perfect showcase for RT.

@hardwenzen: The rasterized version looks good enough honestly. But yeah, the devs lied. They said RT would come at release back then, then backtracked.

Played for a bit. Very cool introduction to the game world. I love games like this where so much thought and care has gone into the details and building atmosphere. Very impressed so far. Within the first hour, I have already killed chickens, a pig, a cow, and met a badass granny. LOL, this is good stuff.

A couple of things to note... it does not have proper ultrawide support or FOV adjustments. You can inject ultrawide and adjust the FOV with the Flawless Widescreen app. Also, I had to edit the Engine.ini file to get rid of the chromatic aberration. Game looks and runs great though. However, I think I am going to hold out for the RT update before I progress further.

As others mentioned, the dialogue of the main character can be a bit cringe at times, but it does not bother me that much.

Ghost still has System Shock, Redfall and Stalker 2 to save the day.

So far, he was right about Deathloop and the 2 newest Doom's. He was tragically wrong about Rage 2, Just Cause 4, and was semi-right about Metro: Exodus being a 'masterpiece non-mainstream movie game' which received solid 8's.

Metro Exodus is masterpiece. so is Prey, so Is both Dooms.

I have called it this will get low scores by critics. if it was western game it would have been 9s and 10s.

@ghosts4ever: You’ve been saying that about every single shooter that comes out. Shooters havnt really evolved much. Look at Metroid Prime, no fps has even come close to its level of innovation in the FPS genre. And that game came out over 20 years ago.
