Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have extended their merger deadline beyond July and into October.

"The recent decision in the U.S. and approvals in 40 countries all validate that the deal is good for competition, players, and the future of gaming. Given global regulatory approvals and the companies’ confidence that CMA now recognizes there are remedies available to meet their concerns in the UK, the Activision Blizzard and Microsoft boards of directors have authorized the companies not to terminate the deal until after October 18," Activision said. And regarding Activision paying hardball, don't think that was happening, them walking away from the deal would plummet the share value and anger all the investors, them taking 3bil because delay also quite unlikely, making the future owner pay

Why close without The CMA approval now when you can close with approval in a month or two,all the lawyers from MS,ABK and the CMA had a meeting a few days ago,they would have 100% agreed to the 3 billion deadline day delay,they don't need to report anything that happened in that meeting.

IMO the next news we hear on this will be in several weeks time when the CMA announce they approve the deal and MS announce the deal closure

Sounds about right. Everything I heard points to them extending this to close with the CMA's approval.

And while October sounds like a hefty extension, if you read between the lines, it seems more of a "just in case" extension. Under this new deadline, that much-reported $3 billion termination fee actually jumps to $3.5 billion on August 29th, and then to $4.5 billion on September 15th.

They fully believe they can close this before August 29th, which is the CMA's final decision deadline.

Hopefully it closes much sooner. It’ll be nice to see this finally officially over and done with.

@SecretPolice: @Zero_epyon: From my understanding, the CMA has set a deadline of August. 29th and the situation will most likely be dealt with before then. October deadline is just a cushion date. This extension shows MS was likely never ever going to close over the CMA, so the FTC was baited into filing a PI in Federal Court by MS. This is what we called being played-for fools they are lol.

Sony deserves everything they are getting and then some. They looked completely foolish and hypocritical in court - especially when they ditched Khan as she was eviscerated and dominated painfully in front of congress.

At least now we know that Khan is a fraud and holds a delinquent law license.

Jesus, people here are so concerned over Randy's money as of that's important than this merger deal going on. Don't really care about Randy is broke, I just want this crap to be over with...at least they are aiming late August than October.

You know, the cows arguments about consolidation have been really tedious. It sounds like they want to have their cake and eat it.

They have no problem with exclusives, they love exclusives they always have. So as long as Playstation gamers are getting most of the games and it's only others that have been missing out, they don't care, they're happy.

But when MS takes a bunch of exclusives, out comes the faux outrage and the FTC like jargon. I don't give a shit that these are established ips. YOU supported the business model of Sony and found out what happens.

You can't have it both ways. You can't be "pro" the exclusives, that leads to PS having the most popularity and market share, but bitch when MS loses their shit and gets outright perma exclusives.

All MS did, was take the game Sony was forcing them to play and they took it to the extreme level.

Exactly, the way MS does it is STILL less anti-consumer than the way Sony does it. On top of that, you can't call the one pledging new games to Gamepass as anti-consumer. It's still cheaper to just get a Series S and use it for Gamepass or get it on the PC.

It really felt like the FTC was saying, regarding Gamepass, that "it's anti-competitive to be so pro-consumer, you put pressure on the competition to compete".

Actually Sony caused this. Buying exclusive rights and telling developers to skip Gamepass... Well now you're messing with MSs service and of course MS is going to need constant releases on the service. Well, as you said Sony f'd around and found out, because MS will definitely have constant releases now.

@last_lap: nope I didn't bookmark it but I do remember. I said I would bet him, because I knew this deal would go through, but I decided to let him take on dabear instead. I think there were a few more who bet him. We need to find that thread. Sadly there were maybe 50 AB threads made in the past year.
