FTC Vs Microsoft Thread

To be honest, when the CMA blocked it, even I wasn't sure. But once the FTC was demolished, CMA or no CMA... It was going to happen.

I would never. The CMA is unpredictable. Of all things to get caught up on, they had an issue with cloud gaming. Nobody saw that coming. Hell, Xbox’s stance on cloud gaming via the leaked emails proves as much.

Before the CMA denied the acquisition last time, we were told by everyone in the industry the deal was going through. The CMA gave every indication it was going through. And then bam… Sorry if I’m a little skeptical

Is the FTC doing this because the deal changed? I don't think the change is enough to warrant a whole new investigation.

The FTC's recent actions will go nowhere. Whether the deal goes through now depends on the CMA. The CMA and Microsoft came to an agreement on new remedies, today is the last day for the CMA to take input on the proposed remedies and they'll weigh how to proceed based off the given responses. I'm not so much concerned they'll not be satisfied, but they'll drag their feet too close to the revised merger deadline of October 18th. But if all goes in MS's favor this time, and the CMA gives their stamp of approval in a timely manner, indeed, this MS-ABK merger will be a done deal in a couple weeks.

And now the FTC is back at it.

Apparently the Ubisoft agreement "raises doubts about whether it could ever be profitable for Ubisoft to license these games to multi-game content subscription service providers that offer streaming". The FTC wants more info from Microsoft and Ubisoft about the agreement. The FTC also wants to know about the Microsoft/Sony deal execution. The FTC was aware of the early negotiations and Sony's initial opinion of the deal, but now want to know about "the circumstances surrounding Sony's decision in July 2023 to accept the offer", which occurred after discovery deadline.

That has nothing to do with this. They're asking for more tax, for a period between 2004 - 2013.
