Poll Will you buy TloU 2? Given the leaks (132 votes)

Yes I'll buy it no matter what! 31%
I am even more interested then before. 2%
No I was never interested and I'm still not. 44%
I was interested but not anymore! 23%

I want to know if people are interested in purchasing TLOU 2 in light of the current situation. This thread isn't to discuss the leaks but for those that have viewed them if they have any interest in the game now.

I was personally interested because I'm generally a fan of ND games but I can say as of now I no longer have interest in this title. This will be the first ND title I haven't purchased since the last Jax and Daxter.

Only Naughty Dog game I cared for was Jak and Daxter 1.

The leaks make it seem like it is a really good story, but why should I pay money for a videogame to see a story?

it's 30 hours long im sure there is plenty of gameplay. plus if you watched the gameplay trailers it looks so brutal and intense. so many ways to take out your enemy. the story is there to make you more immersed in the game. I always like a good story in my games. i get more attached to the player and makes me want to see the end.

I also like Good stories in games but in this case. the story is complete trash. yet they force us to watch.

again have you seen the entire story no? what happens if people get attached to the new characters in the game? besides you make it clear in every post you don't like stories or cut scenes. you say its a movie game

or do you just hate sony so much that only there games have crappy stories?

but we both agree with something lol. i hate force walking to but we all have to live with them because of these hard drives. i mean man do i hate them lol. I can deal with a slow but cool looking door opening.

wish dev's make ssd only games next gen but that won't happen unless it's a ps5 exclusives. only because there not made to go to pc. unless Microsoft cuts those parts out on the series x or lets you run instead of walking slow like a grandma lol.

because Microsoft and third partys make there games for pc aswell and the ssd is not in most pc today.

hopefully the gen after that they will force people to buy ssd to play the games on pc.

seeing these ssd in action has spoiled me and can't wait for next gen lol.

I'll say it again as I've said it a million times... The Mona Lisa doesn't have a sequel.

Nurture over nature will always be better in video games.

Video games are not exclusively a story telling medium, and the last of us is many things, the mona lisa isn't one of them. There are plenty of benefits to making sequels and making mechanical improvements on the gameplay.

That and better stories than TLOU have sequels, good ones even.

Rubbish take.

@uninspiredcup: Of course there are but after reading the leaks they went off the deep end... I'm laughing at people who were saying..."buh buh it's just a lesbian kiss, that offends you snowflake...?

Lol that was the tip of the iceberg. Thus is what happens when leftwing devs go unchecked and surround themselves with people that only think like they do.

The thing from what I can tell that seems to be pissing people off has nothing do with "lesbians".

I mean, no fan of the series, lit couldn't give a shit. But just watching that footage pink sent, what I saw was a super fucking unlikable character I don't want to play, with a lot of shock tactic torture porn.

Nothing in their about Lesbians, or trans or whatever. Goofy looking character can look goofy because designer dumb dumb.

Of course I'd buy the sequel to arguably the greatest game ever made. Though I really, really hoped they never would make a sequel to it. Same with my two favourite movies Interstellar and Inception. Nothing I want more (but actually less) than a sequel to them.

I wasn't interested in the first place. I feel like the first one might be one of the most if not the most overrated game of all time.
That said... what was shown? More forced and cringe lesbian action?

I agree with Eroica on this one. TLOU didn't need a sequel. Not with those characters and that storyline anyway. And compared to other Naughty Dog games, the story in TLOU is absolutely the mona lisa.

Leftwing devs? Cut that shit out... Your trans character claim is still only speculation, and looking at all of the information in the leaks, I'm not sure how people are coming to that conclusion. The gender and sexual orientation of the lead characters are not why this game sounds terrible. It's literally everything else.

What would a right wing dev look like? EA at their most money hungry? I would rather play as a trans-racial, intersexual xe before paying for better guns to win matches in online shooters. Maybe that's just me...

yeah the first one is overrated for sure, i felt the same way, not a bad game but i did not find it as amazing as others.

From what I read, the lesbian thing isnt the controversial part, her being a lesbian was already known. The story tho seems to revolve around a christian cult that's trying to kill her because shes gay. The being gay thing is whatever but having the story revolve around getting attacked by religious people for being gay... kinda a bad look. I just don't think the game needed this, i'm sure somebody will like it. It just follows a very "woke" formula. homophobic christian cult hunts down gay victims... if ND wanted to get even more wild they should have made the cult Islamic.

Having characters have different sexuality isnt bad at all, but this story seems to try to hamfist her gayness into the story where it doesn't need to be.

@goldenelementxl: Keep your head in the sand all you want.. but they fell off a cliff. Even if she isn't trans the look of her design is fucking laugable.( that's left wing) do you see anyone right of center or even just left of center going with that design? And then glorifying her as a secondary hero of the game?

The backstory behind her is forced and the treatment of a beloved character that a large portion of your audience loves is embarrassing.

Also stop acting like greed is a rightwing trait... keep in mind this leak happened because apparently Neil can't pay his employees after working them 80 hour weeks. Most people that vier either to far left or right are generally shitty people that try to over compensate by acting like some major social issue is why they exist. It's generally an attempt for you not to see what a shitty person they actually are.

Yeah, because that's what would happen the other way around... Money is a universal language.. it doesn't take sides, and anyone who doesn't see that is a perfect candidate to buy into the bs in the first place.

No, how about neither.

Adding the left bullshit just to have it there to try and make a point is the opposite of the point they are trying to make. Forcing things just to "make them be" or yell "hey, this is completely normal" does nothing more than to prove the opposite. People these days need a reality check and to stop being told they are never wrong or anything and everything is normal. I mean.. those people only act that way these days because of the army or weirdos like them telling them it's okay over the internet... and now these same people want electronic and mail in voting.. lol. Gotta love it.

To each their own, but this game is getting the backlash it deserves.

Abby might not be trans, shes just super buff (her settlement has a gym). No idea how she got that buff without a truckload of whey daily or steroids though.

Her little asian sidekick (the dude with the bow) is played by a trans actor though. That's not really relevant, but said actor is openly racist on Twitter, so yeah. Thought I'd just throw that out there.

Holy hell... they kind of killed that prediction.. lol.

Most of it sounds right on.

To me it sounds absolutely terrible, and I sure hope that people speak with their wallets on this one and don't buy the game. We don't need this crap in our games... it's already completely invaded every moment of our social lives and media.

It is good to see going through the comments that there are still people out there that see through the smoke and mirrors and see it for what it truly is.

City of Thieves was one of the biggest inspirations for the Original The Last of Us. I wonder if Naughty Dog are honored to have the rights to reference the novel like that.

That honestly doesnt so bad, if you can look past the loaded language the author of that piece was using.

Pretty fitting the themes of the story they are trying to convey. Not the greatest story by any means, but serviceable, which is more than I can say for most games.

@jg4xchamp: disagree. I don't call it the Mona Lisa because it's the "best game of all time", just like I don't think the Mona Lisa is the best painting of all time. I'm suggesting the artwork approach because the practice of creating ip in that world would rarely if ever produce sequel art.

We can chat all day about last of us narrative shortcomings or which games have better gameplay, but to me at least, the last of us was able to tap the rare wellspring of compelling story telling with compelling gameplay in the fresh package of new ip. There were no experienced mythos to follow or comeback stories with that game. Nothing previous to the senses and yet it was one of the single stand out games of two generations of gaming.

They even managed to tell a story with an ending that respected the dire reality of the characters and world.. It was complete and it didn't need to be revisited. In that sense I still say it's the Mona Lisa, at least of the last 10 years.

Are there better games? Sure... That's a much longer discussion, because as you said what really dictates what makes a game goat?

My garbage take is that when a game comes out and hits so many high points across the spectrum, resonates with players and also tells a full story, it doesn't need to be revisited.. DaVinci knew this... How come Picasso doesn't? :P

Wow, they went that far huh? lol....

Doesn't surprise me at all actually. Sad as that may sound... I mean that's pretty much par for the course with those kind of people these days. They have the backing of the vocal minority and can claim anything they want as the truth or sane since others like them will agree.. then throw in a pinch of sympathizers and we have a natural Bernie Sanders rally, so grab your pitchforks and torches.. lol. Anyways though, I digress.

They just want to be seen and heard regardless of the reason.

@TheEroica: The flaw to your art history comparison is the Mona Lisa is not a story, it is a painting. The only reason why the Mona Lisa is so famous today is not because of the creator but because of what happened to it after it was made which includes being stolen at one point in history. The theft of Mona Lisa and its ultimate return is much of the reason why it's so famous today.

Mona Lisa was never a painting meant for public display. It was literally a personal painting that everyone thinks there's deeper meaning than what's actually there.

A lot of people talk art history without actually knowing the history of what they're talking about.

I don't see the comparison here towards The Last of Us. One was created with a story in mind and the other is just a painting. Your general art history correlations here sway between not making sense and being ignorant on the subject.

This has to be a joke.. no way in hell this can be true.

Very cool history on Mona though.

Can't say agree here. It doesn't need to be famous to be a masterpiece.

A lot of Da Vinci's stuff was destroyed and even treated like shit as target practice for soldiers.

Mean, paintings and what not obviously tell stories. A Bar at the Folies-Bergère probably one of the best examples.

Depending on the context of the argument, story can have other meanings.

In those days showing that would be like making a video saying you support ISIS. That's a story, literally hidden within the painting, hidden for hundreds of years.

@jaydan: it really wasn't an art history comparison. It was comparing the last of us to the priceless art world. Pick any priceless painting you'd like.

Very cool history on Mona though.

It still doesn't work. You're still comparing age-old paintings to the deliberate template of storytelling. Famous artists of old did not have the concept of creating art for the sake of telling a story and having an audience that will tune into their work for continuous storytelling as if paintings were TV shows. No.

The flaw is you're trying to correlate very modern templates to time periods and mediums that didn't have such.

@uninspiredcup: The majority of Mona Lisa's "story" has nothing to do with its creation or the creator's intent. That's the point here. The Mona Lisa could have a post-story now because it just about went around the moon and back, but to insinuate Leonardo was smart enough to not make sequels to things he never intended to tell a story as an argument to justify the conversation here, is a bit asinine and a flawed argument.

Leonardo was never a storyteller, he was a scientist. Storytelling was simply not within his arsenal of qualities.

He was a scientist yes, that doesn't mean he wasn't a story-teller like you're black and white either one or the other. He was literally commissioned for works where the imagery told a story, specifically biblical.

Personally I never look at a game and say, “That game doesn’t need a sequel” because it’s not my creation or story to tell. If a developer wants to continue a story or take it wherever they want then I say, “Have at it”. If it is something that interests me then that’s great, I’ll get it and enjoy it. If it turns out to be something that doesn‘t interest then I’ll just pass on it. It won’t diminish any enjoyment I had with the previous game or games.

@uninspiredcup: I'm going to reside with the saying "a picture can say a million words" hence tell a story, and that includes fine art through out history with no exceptions.

It can be argued Leonardo's own work does tell a story. His work tells a story of his own discoveries and hypothesis' he's created in his life. Once again, scientific discoveries and private commissions wasn't his intention of being a storyteller.

We could look greater into different renaissance periods and artists commissioned by the church, which most artists were during these times, they were storytellers as they often told stories on their religions and mythology.

To place the word "sequel" to any of these times to justify a modern template just doesn't make sense. There was no entertainment industry back in the day. Artists weren't making creations to be well-received in order to continue in with making a franchise out of them.

To me the whole argument is like saying "cavemen must have been smart enough to----" when such modern ideas never crossed their minds in the first place.

System Wars has turned into art wars. I'm not sure I like it. I know nothing about art. This is what console kids must feel like when folks are talking tech specs

@goldenelementxl: I've always imagined Art Wars to look kinda like a Hieronymus Bosch painting.

I'm not sure why TheEroica assume Last of Us doesn't need a sequel but it was well known it was indeed getting a sequel. But at the same time, I would have like if ND made a sequel without continuing with Ellie & Joe, could have started with different characters but here we are with Ellie & Joe.

Been looking forward to a sequel and still hype to play Part 2.

@uninspiredcup: lol yea lets just avoid the fact that they glorified the character and made her a new lead at the expense of a beloved character. And let's act like we have no clue why that happened.

I remember when Xena completely overshadowed Hercules, dark times.

@r-gamer: I find it ironic everyone's freaking out over Ellie's kissing but the fact is, she already done it in Left Behind Expansion back in early 2014 and there wasn't any backlash back then. I always accepted Ellie who and what she is. If she's into same-sex, then that's her business. I'm just more fascinated she's a serial killer lol.

@davillain-: my point is it that ended up being nothing. I've come to see that devs like Druckman see what they can get away with and what will be acceptable. First I'm going to make one of the lead characters a lesbian... then were going to show more details about her relationship... then were going to make her lesbian relationship a center focus in the story... then..... I won't go into it but it got batshit crazy.

It was more about it being in your face. It was clear they were heading a certain direction, and leaks seem to corroborate that.

Didn't care but after reading through the leaks I'm genuinely interested. Crazy looking story.

People were upset about that.

I agree that her serial killer mentalities are a LOT more interesting. I am interested in the story, as it may attempt to explore the mind of person who has quite frankly lost everything that was important to her, building well on one of her character traits established in the original.
